Suspect arrested in connection with Sierra Vista shooting death

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night in a shooting death Dec. 20 in Sierra Vista, police said.
Robert T. Tillman is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Lukata A. Way, 31, during a fight at a party, according to a Sierra Vista Police Department press release.
Tillman was arrested in Gilbert and was expected to be transported and booked into the Cochise County jail.
According to police, a fight broke out at the party at the home in the 2000 block of Piccadilly Drive, which was attended by 40 to 60 people.
A man left the party during the fight and came back with Way, who was the man’s father figure.
Way confronted another person before the two men got into a separate fight.
Tillman, who was not involved in the altercation, was suspected of firing shots from a handgun and striking Way several times.
Another man, Jeremy M. Campas, 19, was struck by a bullet during the shooting.

MAN SHOT TO DEATH
Police investigating the shooting death of William A. Clark are awaiting the results of lab tests on evidence gathered during the investigation.
Clark, 49, of Bowling Green, was shot and killed Dec. 14 at an apartment at 229A Carpenter Court. He was taken to The Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead that night.
In the days immediately following the shooting, a person of interest emerged in the case and was being sought by the Bowling Green Police Department, though it is unclear how close police are now to making an arrest in the case.
“We’ve collected some evidence and we’re waiting on that to come back from the lab,” said Officer Barry Pruitt, BGPD spokesman. “We are still conducting some interviews.”
According to information gathered by investigators, on the night of the shooting someone knocked on the door of William Carter’s apartment at 229A Carpenter Court.
An argument broke out in the doorway, leading to a scuffle and eventually Clark being shot.
Carter was grazed by a bullet during the incident, Pruitt said, but did not require medical attention.
Police responded to the scene after receiving a report of shots fired in the area at about 9:15 p.m. Dec. 14.
Pruitt declined to elaborate on what evidence had been gathered for testing or what the lab tests of the evidence are meant to determine.
Clark’s death was the fourth homicide investigated this year by city police.
Western Kentucky University mathematics professor Martha “Bettina” Richmond, 51, was found dead Nov. 22 in her car parked outside the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation building from multiple stab wounds.
No charges have been filed in connection with her death.
Edward “Dickie” Whiteside, 64, was shot and killed at his residence at 1268 Kentucky St. on May 28. Earl Wright, 17, was charged with murder and four other people were charged in connection with the shooting. Their cases are pending in court.

MOM ARRESTED 11 YEARS LATER FOR KIDNAPPING HER TWO SONS/AFTER NO LONGER WANTING TO TAKE CARE THEM

Jill Haugen was arrested at her home in Milton, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, days after she had contacted police saying she didn't want to take care of her sons any longer, Milton Police Chief Craig Lutcher told CNN.
Police in Spokane, Washington, said a felony warrant for first-degree custodial interference was issued for her in 1998. The Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, district attorney's office said she has been charged with being a fugitive from justice and is awaiting an extradition hearing. It was not immediately clear if she had retained legal representation.
Police made two trips to her house after her Saturday phone call, Lutcher said, and the sons, now ages 15 and 16, were placed into foster care after the second visit, on Sunday.
A caseworker discovered through an Internet search that there was a warrant from Washington state for Haugen's arrest and told police, Lutcher said.

Family members were still trying to cope with the death of their loved one, while police awaited preliminary autopsy results on a Bourbonnais man who was found dead in a field near Kmart Supercenter in Bradley.
Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner said an autopsy was conducted Wednesday, but toxicology and other tests won't be back for several weeks. He will rule on a cause of death only after reviewing those results.
"Until we get all the information and find out what happened, we can't make any determination," Bradley Police Chief Steve Coy told The Daily Journal Wednesday. "Unfortunately, it takes a little time."
He said police are investigating this case as if it were a homicide until they learn otherwise. "We'll look into it like we would any death investigation that doesn't appear natural," Coy said.
Bradley police were called at about 8:50 a.m. Monday to the adjacent field southwest of Kmart Supercenter, 990 N. Kinzie Ave., after a passerby found the partially clothed body of Horace L. Gee, 27, of 1355 N. Arthur Burch Drive, Bourbonnais, behind a pile of snow.
Gee's wife, Yolanda Gee, said she came home at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday and her husband decided to go out between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. for some beers. She said he'd only had two since she returned home.
When he left their trailer, she said he was wearing an orange shirt, two other shirts, a white and black hooded sweatshirt and a blue Bears coat.
"He dressed warm," Yolanda Gee said. "The only thing I can think of is him going to Kmart to buy more beer."
But she said surveillance footage from Kmart shows him entering the store at 8:59 p.m., and he didn't appear to buy anything. His orange shirt was found near him, but the coat and other shirts were missing, she said.
She's desperate for detectives to learn what happened to her husband of 10 years. The couple has four children, she said, their daughter, Destiny Gee, 9, and three stepsons, Jeremiah Calhoun, 15, John Edwards, 13, and James Lee, 10. "I don't think it's really going to hit them until they see him in the casket," Yolanda Gee said through tears.
Horace Gee's aunt, Carla Sykes, said she can't imagine anyone wanting to hurt her nephew. "Horace was so gentle and sweet," Sykes said. "He would be the first to help you if you needed it."
Sykes and Emmalene Carter, Horace Gee's mother, said he was unemployed and a stay-at-home dad while his wife worked and went to school.
Sykes said: "He told (sister) Andrea (Baker) on Christmas Day he wanted to go back to school. He said, 'Before I leave this earth I want to do something with my life.' Unfortunately he did not (have the chance)."
Sykes said she believes there was foul play in her nephew's death and she believes police should look at the store's security video.
"I understand there is a video of him leaving Kmart. He was followed out by some Caucasian men and he either fell or was knocked down and (then) you can't see him anymore," she said.
She said she also wants to know if the death is connected to another video initially posted Dec. 26 on YouTube in which family members say Gee is being beaten by a man he knows. That video was removed Tuesday after Yolanda Gee e-mailed and asked for it to be taken down in light of her husband's death.
"I am aware of tapes and other things. But we're not going to make a rush to judgment," said Coy when asked. "I assure all parties this will be fully investigated."
Detectives will analyze that video, identify those in it and conduct interviews, he said. Coy said anyone with information should contact him or Detective Robert Gray at (815) 933-3315.

"I trusted him and I loved him, and I kept thinking things would change," Allam told the Daily News yesterday.
In the federal suit, Allam accuses Meyers, 42, of assault and battery, false imprisonment and causing emotional distress. Lawyer Robert Tolchin said she seeks unspecified damages.
She claims Meyers treated her like a "slave" and insisted she call him "the most powerful man in the world."
After meeting Meyers in Geneva in 2007, when she was a lowly administrative assistant, he swept her off her feet, lavishing her with the lifestyle of a jet-setter.
She says he flew her back and forth from France to New York, wined and dined her at fancy restaurants and arranged romantic European getaways.
Five months into courtship, Meyers slapped her after she complained they didn't see enough of each other, court papers contend.
He would repeatedly apologize and make up, only to batter her and tighten the grip on her life, she said.
Meyers couldn't be reached. His lawyer, ex-wife Natasha Meyers, declined to comment.

THIS MAN'S SON FOUND HIM DEAD ON CHRISTMAS NIGHT....(after not hearing from his dad,he went to check on him)
A young man worried because he hadn't heard from his father went to his Brooklyn apartment on Christmas night and found him shot to death, police said.
Father of four Nigel Tempro, 43, had been out of touch for two days when his youngest son went to his Flatbush Ave. home.
He found his father's body in the bedroom, with three gunshot wounds, and called 911.
Police said whoever shot Tempro had no trouble getting into his fourth floor apartment.
"They came in left through the front door," said a police source.
No one has been arrested.
Tempro moved into the building three months ago and lived there with his current girlfriend, neighbors said.
Tonya Robinson, 22, who lives a floor below Tempro's apartment, said she heard commotion a couple of nights ago.
"I heard a struggle, like people were fighting," she said. "I heard something hitting the floor.
"I didn't hear a shot," she added. "It was just a lot of moving around."
Tempro, who was busted earlier this year for carrying marijuana, always had people in and out of his apartment.
But, she said, "he seemed like a nice guy."

Does anybody out there have any helpful information?I'm being given the runaround about my sons death.There is a video of him being beaten a couple of months ago,someone posted it on utube this past saturday.I have not seen it because my daughter advised me not because it was too graphic.It's been pulled off now but,the coroner and the police have not told me much.The coroner said that there was not any signs of a recent beating and he's awaiting toxicology tests to come back.Why can't they arrested the men that beat him up in the video?He (the coroner) says no one can give him a date of the beating.This stuff is insane.My sons aunt called me up and asked me point blank"DON'T YOU KNOW THAT HORACE IS DEAD" and "ARE YOU COMING BACK HERE" meaning my hometown Kankakee.She sounded drunk.I'm going back over to the daily journal online.I also spoke with a very nice Daily Journal reporter that is covering this story.If ANYONE can make some helpful suggestions please do so.
PEORIA-17 HOMICIDES SO FAR 2009 (this is what I awoke to this Morning)
PEORIA — The city’s 17th homicide victim died of a gunshot wound to the head late Tuesday night, authorities said.
Diondre Nunn, 17, of 314 N. Saratoga St. was pronounced dead about 11:25 p.m. in a yard behind a home at 911 W. Third St. Police responded to a call of shots fired and found Nunn lying face-down in the snow in the yard not far from the home he shared with girlfriend Kayla White.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, but Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said Nunn appeared to have been shot from behind while running through the yard on Third Street.
No arrests have been made.
Police urge anyone with information on the homicide to call them at 673-4521 or to call CrimeStoppers at 673-9000.

Well,I'm going to try and get some sleep.I have a severe headache that reaches all the way down the left side of my neck.I've only had three hours of sleep in the past 24 hours.I just keep on crying an endless flow tears.How I wish that this were a nightmare and I could wake up.I'm finding out more and more hurtful details that my son suffered the last two months of his life.I pray for justice for my child.I have to try and get some sleep,because I have some extremely important phone calls to make in the morning.Everyone be safe.Goodnight.
CHARLIE SHEEN'S WIFE CLAIMS HE THREATENED TO HAVE HER KILLED...
CNN) -- Charlie Sheen's wife Brooke Mueller claims that the actor pinned her to a bed, held a knife to her throat and threatened to have her killed, according to her statement to Aspen County police.
"I have ex-police I can hire who know how to get the job done, and they won't leave any trace," Mueller alleges Sheen said to her as he held her down with a knife, according to an affidavit released by the Aspen Police Department.
After the incident that led to Sheen's Christmas Day arrest, Mueller told police she had told Sheen she wanted a divorce and would get custody of their two children. Mueller said he became enraged, straddling her, grabbing her by the neck and held a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her. The report notes red marks on Mueller's neck.
In his statement to police Officer Rick Magnuson, Sheen, identified in police documents by his birth name, Carlos Irwin Estevez, denies threatening Mueller with a knife or strangling her. He said he and Mueller had been having marital problems lately and that his wife had a problem with alcohol.

A 38-year-old Lockport man was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility today on a charge of aggravated battery to a child.
Lockport police, working with the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force, arrested Mark Trubiano of the 700 block of Hemlock Lane following an investigation into a report of suspicious injuries to a 2½-year-old child, Lockport Police Lt. Dave Draksler said.

It's hard for me to write this,my 27 year old son Horace was murdered last night.My baby was found in a Super Kmart parking lot frozen,without a shirt or jacket or shoes.I was checking my emails earlier,when I recieved an email from my 29 year old daughter whom lives New Jersy,though her email was brief I knew that something dreadful had happened.She said that she had to talk to me about Horace and it was "terrible". I start to cry and I couldn't stop,I told my husband that I had to call my daughter and that I was scared.When I called her I lived every parents worst nightmare.My child was dead and there were very little answers.We hollered and cried together and I knew that I had to call my 22 yr. old daughter who now lives with my brother.It didn't seem real to her either.My two daughters and I had been talking to Horace for awhile on Facebook.We all talked to him on Saturday.This was the last time that either of us had heard from him.My 22 yr. old daughter had my nephew bring her over to my house for awhile,we hugged and cried together.Horace's wife called me around this time well,actually she had her sister speak with me first.I expressed to her that I already knew the horrible news.She relayed this to Horace's wife,I could hear her in the background.Finally,she(my son's wife) was on the phone.The details that she described to me did not make sense.She said that the police had her come and identify my sons lifeless body.They (the police) showed her a video tape of my son in Super Kmart making a beer purchase (where she supposedly dropped him off) there are three other guys in the video with Horace but,you do not see him leave the store but,he is found in the parking lot this morning without a shirt or shoes or coat.I had to get off of the phone because of a severe nose bleed and I broke down again to the point that I could not talk.She mentioned something about his teeth and that I could not come for two weeks because he (my son) was frozen and he had to thaw out before they could perform an autopsy.I told her that she wasn't making any sense and that my nose was bleeding,I told her not hang up and I gave my 22 year old daughter the phone to jot down her contact numbers.When I got back on the phone,I had to speak to her sister again,she was gone.I remember (my sons wife) kept repeating that she was sorry,very sorry.She kept saying that over and over.Horace was in an abusive relationship with her,she had once stabbed him in the arm a few years ago.And they would seperate from time to time.He had told me that he cooked and cleaned and took care of the kids while she worked and attended school.He was not allowed to go anywhere or get on the computer when he wanted,he helped her buy two cars but,he was not allowed to drive them.Somebody took my child's life for nothing.He was a good man and didn't deserve to be left out in a freezing cold parking lot.I'm going to call the local police dept. there in the morning,I do not believe that I know the truth about what happened to my son.

An Aurora man who police say tried to get an 8-year-old boy to leave a grocery store with him was found to have marijuana, sex toys, children's toys and two handguns in his van when police caught up with him, authorities said today.
Stephen P. Sweigart, 61, of the 900 block of Lenwood Court, was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bond in Kane County Circuit Court today following his arrest Saturday, according to a release from the Aurora Police Department.
Sweigart faces charges of felony attempted child abduction, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of cannabis, as well as 10 misdemeanor charges of unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Sweigart was at a Jewel-Osco Store in the 1900 block of West Galena Boulevard in Aurora about 8:50 p.m. Saturday when he came up to the 8-year-old, talked to him about toys the boy was playing with, and then asked him to come home with him, according to the release. When the boy refused, Sweigert left the store, according to police.
But the boy's mother, who was in a checkout line with his older sister, saw what happened and told store employees, who called police. In the store parking lot soon after, the mother apparently told a 43-year-old Aurora man about the abduction attempt, and the man followed a minivan Sweigert was driving and called police, according to police.
An Aurora police officer found Sweigart in his driveway in the minivan. When he came up to the vehicle, he smelled burned marijuana and asked Sweigart if he could search the minivan, according to police.
In the minivan, the officer found two handguns, one of them loaded; several boxes of ammunition; drug paraphernalia; sex toys; children's toys; several pieces of lingerie; and numerous martial-arts style throwing stars. Authorities also searched Sweigart's house and found more than 2½ ounces of marijuana, as well as more drug paraphernalia, according to police.

PEORIA — A murder suspect wanted on a $2 million arrest warrant turned himself in at the Peoria Police Department on Sunday night, police said.
Nikko J. Clark, 21, whose last known address was 3725 W. Verner Drive, turned himself in about 9:50 p.m. at Police Headquarters and was arrested about an hour later, according to police reports.
Clark was wanted for the slaying of Brandon D. Grant, 23, of Peoria on Nov. 21.
Grant, the city’s 13th homicide victim of 2009, was found with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen inside a car in a parking lot outside Pierson Hills Apartment Complex, 1819 N. Lehman Road.
It has not been released if Grant was shot in the car or elsewhere.
On Dec. 15, Clark was indicted by a Peoria County grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon. Although Clark was not in custody at the time, bond was set at $2 million.
Police have not indicated a motive in the shooing but on Monday said the alleged shooter and victim knew each other.

"For her son to see her like that, it's terrible," said a friend, Margarita Robinson, 37.
Houston, a mother of three, worked as a health care assistant for senior citizens, relatives said. "I feel bad for her babies," Robinson said. "They lost their mom."
Friends were suspicious of Houston's recent boyfriend, who lives on the first floor of her building.
"People that cared about Julia didn't really like him," said a friend.
Investigators had yet to question the man, but were pursuing his whereabouts, sources said. "We don't know" if he's capable of doing this, said the friend. "But it definitely crossed our minds."

SAN JUAN, Texas -- A south Texas couple put an aborted 7-month-old fetus in a gift box under a Christmas tree after they were unable to flush the remains down a toilet, authorities alleged Monday.
Ruby Lee Medina, 31, and Javier Gonzalez, 37, of Mission, have been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
Bond was set Monday at $20,000 each.
San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said police found the fetus inside the woman's trailer home Thursday after getting an anonymous tip.
Autopsy results are pending, but Gonzalez said police believe the woman used pills to induce an abortion Thursday, then called an ambulance after she began bleeding and told doctors she didn't know where the fetus was.
The abortion drug, mifepristone, was made to be used at approximately seven weeks into pregnancy to kill an unborn child, but the second part of the two-drug process, misoprostol, can be used to cause contractions.
It is an anti-ulcer drug that is not meant for pregnancy or abortion purposes.
Gonzalez said Medina called for an ambulance after she began bleeding and told paramedics she did not know the location of the unborn child.
He indicated the couple attempted to flush the body of the baby down the toilet but were unable to do so.
The couple said they eventually had planned to bury the baby's body in their backyard but police found them out first.
They voluntarily surrendered to officials.

An 11-month-old girl who suffered from smoke inhalation during a Christmas Eve morning fire at her Little Village home died today, officials and family said.
Mariana Pasteles of the 2800 block of South Sawyer Avenue was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m. at Children's Memorial Hospital, said a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner. The spokesman said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday but it seems that the toddler died as a result of the fire.
"I know that she is a little angel,'' said the girl's paternal grandmother Cruz Chavez. "God knows where she is going to be now, that she'll be at peace."
Mariana along with her 2-year-old sister, Gabriela, were injured at the fire at their home. Both suffered from smoke inhalation, officials from the Chicago Fire Department said. An investigation determined that a candle was to blame for the Christmas Eve fire which broke out about 8:15 a.m. in a back bedroom of their apartment.
The girls' 13-year-old brother baby sat while their parents were out taking care of last minute Christmas shopping, family said.
Chavez said her son, David, called her today and informed her that his daughter had died. She said that the family had been traveling between Mariana's bedside at Children's Memorial Hospital on the North Side and Gabriela's bed side at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
She said a priest from a local parish had gone to the hospital over the weekend. Hours after the fire the priest had prayed with family members as the girls were being treated. Fire officials said while both girls had suffered from smoke inhalation Mariana's condition was significantly worse. The priest had given both girls their last rites on Thursday.
Chavez, 80, said after the fire she cleaned the girl's tiny feet, gave the girl a blessing and prayed over her. Bolingbrook Police said today they have arrested a Bolingbrook couple in connection with the fatal stabbing early Saturday of a Romeoville man.
The man who was killed was identified today as Roberto Cortez, 30. He along with the two people charged in the case were all invited to a Christmas party on the 100 block of Campbell Drive where a verbal altercation precipitated the slaying, Bolingbrook Police Lt. Mike Rompa said.
Cortez was found in the 100 block of Campbell Drive about 7:10 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Bolingbrook detectives and members of the community's tactical unit arrested Marco Rodriguez, 32, of the 400 block of Providence Court, at a hotel in Des Plaines. The Will County State's Attorney's office approved first-degree murder charges against Rodriguez, police said.
Rodriguez was also charged with failing to appear in court for unrelated crimes after police discovered that he had four outstanding arrest warrants lodged against him.
Authorities also charged Rodriguez's girlfriend, Yajaira Ruiz-Ramirez, 29, of the same address, with obstructing justice and concealing and aiding a fugitive, police said.
Officials said Ruiz-Ramirez went with Rodriguez to a party on Campbell Drive where the slaying occurred. She was with Rodriguez at the time of his arrest.

Authorities also charged Rodriguez's girlfriend, Yajaira Ruiz-Ramirez, 29, of the same address, with obstructing justice and concealing and aiding a fugitive, police said.
Officials said Ruiz-Ramirez went with Rodriguez to a party on Campbell Drive where the slaying occurred. She was with Rodriguez at the time of his arrest.

16 YEAR OLD GIRL REPORTLY STABS EX-CON IN SELF DEFENSE AND FLEES
The 16-year-old girl suspected of fatally stabbing an ex-con lashed out after he and a bevy of men chased her onto a Queens subway train and tried to fondle her, her mother said Friday.
Thomas Winston, 29, and a pack of thugs tried to pull Cyan Brown out of a subway car at the 21st St.-Queensbridge station about 9 p.m. Thursday following an altercation that began outside a nearby chicken restaurant, police and family said.
She fought back and stabbed Winston before she fled on a Manhattan-bound F train, police said.
Winston, the father of a 10-month-old girl,was pronounced dead at a Manhattan hospital.
Although police have not disclosed any official suspects, Brown's family said detectives have been trying to contact the girl in connection with Winston's death.
"The guys tried to feel up my daughter and the next thing I know, someone was knocking on my door saying Cyan stabbed someone," said Erika Brown, 40, the teen's mother.
Winston, who lived in a nearby shelter, had a long list of prior convictions that included criminal possession of a weapon and selling narcotics and also faced an attempted murder charge, sources said.
But Winston's cousin Tedra Laws, 31, said he was never in the subway station, but was trying to catch a cab to bring a present to his daughter.
"We can't answer why she would stab him," she said of the teen. "She had a history of stabbing people. If you had an argument with her, she'd stab you."
Hours after the Queens slaying, Kendell Witherspoon, 20, was stabbed in his back at an East New York apartment, police said. He was pronounced dead an hour later at Brookdale University Hospital.
There was also a stabbing in front of the Fifth Ave. Presbyterian Church near 56th St. in midtown, where witnesses said one homeless man knifed another in the chest and face during an argument.

A 14-year-old boy was wounded Saturday night when someone fired shots into a CTA bus in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Another teen was also hurt in the incident.
About 10 p.m., a group of teens were riding an eastbound 79th Street bus near Ashland Avenue when some of the teens “started a disturbance,” a police source said. Several of the teens were kicked off the bus, and as it pulled away shots were fired into the rear of the bus, striking a 14-year-old in his arm and leg.
The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in “stable” condition, police said.
Another teen that was reportedly on the bus took himself to Provident Hospital of Cook County with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, police said.
Police said the 14-year-old victim did not appear to be gang affiliated.
Police were talking to some of the teens that were removed from the bus, but had not identified the shooter as of 11:30 p.m. Calumet Area detectives are investigating. http://www.suntimes.com

MAN ARRESTED FOR BASHING HEADS WITH BEER BOTTLE AT A X-MAS PARTY(this must of been some party!)
A Brooklyn, N.Y., man was ordered held on $250,000 bond Saturday after he was charged with bashing two brothers with a beer bottle at a Christmas Day party in Round Lake Beach.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Turk said one of the injured men, a 24-year-old from Round Lake Beach, lost the tip of his left ear in the fracas.
Turk said the suspect, Venarco Crespo, 26, was in Lake County visiting friends and relatives for the holidays and attended a Christmas party in the 1600 block of Williams Drive around 1:40 p.m. on Friday.
Turk said Crespo got into an argument with the girlfriend of the 34-year-old older brother, who stepped in to break it up.
Crespo, police said, hit the man in the face with a beer bottle, Turk said, breaking the bottle and leaving a swollen red mark across his face.
The 24-year-old younger brother confronted Crespo, Turk said, and Crespo swung the bottle at him and cut off the upper part of his left ear.
The 24-year-old needed several stitches to close the wound, Turk said; the older brother did not require hospitalization.
Turk told Associate Judge Donna-Jo Vorderstrasse that Crespo is a construction worker in New York who has prior convictions for assault, robbery, larceny and possession of drugs.
Vorderstrasse told Crespo that if he posts the $25,000 cash needed for his bond he is not to leave the state of Illinois while the case is pending.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Santa Claus' sleigh ride around the world hit a snag in Clarksville early Christmas after the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrested the jolly old elf for trespassing.
Sheriff Norm Lewis found a suspect on his roof late Christmas eve.
"Santa was coming down the neighbor's chimney. He looked suspicious," said Lewis' neighbors Jackie and Jennifer Jerkins.
"He was a white male subject with a long beard. I believe he had eight tiny reindeer perched on his house," said Ted Denny, spokesperson for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
Kris Kringle, age unknown, was booked into the Montgomery County jail, charged with trespassing.
One by one, investigators put the pieces together, and eventually they came to realize what the Jerkins had known all along.
"We said sheriff no! He's supposed to be out here! He's our friend! He's got our gifts, you gotta let him go!" said the Jerkins.
And that's exactly what Sheriff Lewis did.
"We realized he had gainful employment, and was from the North Pole – and we needed to release him as quickly as possible," said Denny.
The rest of the night went without a hitch – it must have, judging from the toys and presents that covered the floor of the Jerkins' living room.

Cration, who is on parole for a 1985 murder conviction, is charged with attempted armed robbery, violation of parole and first-degree murder in connection with the slaying of Ralph Elliott, 79, of the 1400 block of East 55th Street.
About 4 p.m. Thursday Elliott had just picked up chicken from a Popeye's restaurant at 848 E. 47th St. when a man approached him with a gun. They scuffled, and the man shot Elliott twice, once in the face and once in the shoulder, then rummaged through his pockets and fled, police said.

(CNN) -- Actor Charlie Sheen was arrested early Friday and charged with several offenses with a domestic violence component, Aspen, Colorado, police said.
Sheen, 44, is being held without bond in the Pitkin County Jail pending a court appearance. A date for that appearance has not been set.
The actor was charged with second degree assault and menacing, both felonies, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, police said. Additionally, Colorado law mandates a protective order between someone arrested for domestic violence and the victim.
Sheen's spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, cautioned against jumping to conclusions.
"Do not be misled by appearance," he said. "Appearance and reality can be as different as night and day."
Police said the alleged victim, whom they did not identify, did not require a trip to a hospital.
Sheen has been married to sometime actress and real estate investor Brooke Allen since May after a nearly two-year engagement. The couple has twin sons born in March. Allen is his third wife.

Michael De Filippis, 29, was discovered in his condo unit in the 7000 block of West Grand Avenue, in the city's Montclare neighborhood, about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. A friend went over to the condo at the request of his father, who hadn't heard from De Filippis all day.
An autopsy showed De Filippis died of multiple blunt force injuries and multiple stab wounds.
Police are still investigating the killing. No suspects are in custody, said De Filippis' sister, Michelle De Filippis-Bernstein. She said police had told the family there were no signs of forced entry to her brother's home.
"We're in shock; we're grieving," she said. "These people are animals, what they did to my brother. It was vicious and violent."
The family planned a press conference at 7 p.m. tonight at De Filippis' condo in the 7000 block of West Grand Avenue. His sister asked anyone with information about the case to call Grand-Central detectives at 312-746-8282.

Rashod Cowan, 30, and Jason Burrell, 37, are accused of shooting Gerardo Antoniello in the head Sept. 9 in an ambush at the family's Ozone Park home.
The 29-year-old school custodian engineer died the next day.
Cops picked up Cowan, of the Bronx, and Burrell, who lives in Brooklyn, on Tuesday. They were awaiting arraignment last night on murder and other charges.
"We're glad they're under arrest," said brother Carmine Antoniello, 39, who is a cop on the Queens Task Force. "We don't want anyone to go through what we went through."
The target of the robbery was the victim's father, Romeo Antoniello, 61, who had just picked up cash from the family pizzeria.
When he arrived at the N. Conduit Ave. home, Cowan and Burrell pounced and pistol-whipped him, cops said.
His son came to his aid - and the pair knocked him to the ground.
"You get this," one of the assailants told the younger Antoniello before firing a bullet in his head.
Cowan and Burrell fled with nothing, leaving a roll of packing tape and some rope behind.
Detectives initially believed the heartless duo had a female accomplice, but no one else has been arrested.
Cowan, an ex-con, and Burrell were charged in an unrelated burglary that happened four days earlier, law enforcement sources said. No one was seriously injured in that heist.
While he's relieved an arrest was made, Carmine Antoniello said the holiday season won't be the same without his little brother.
"Jerry's going to be missed," he said. "But it's good to know these guys are apprehended. Someone's going to pay for Jerry's death."

SALVATION ARMY MAJOR GUNNED DOWN IN FRONT OF HIS 3 YOUNG CHILDREN ON X-MAS EVE (Some people just don't give a crap about anything!)
(CNN) -- A Salvation Army major was shot dead in front of his three children on Christmas Eve in North Little Rock, Arkansas, authorities said.
Maj. Philip Wise, 40, was gunned down Thursday. He was found lying by the back entrance of a Salvation Army facility, said police spokesman Sgt. Terry Kuykendall.
Wise apparently dropped two bell ringers off at home and returned to the Salvation Army building with his three children, ages 4, 6 and 8. Two men carrying handguns approached them and demanded money before shooting Wise, Kuykendall said.
The suspects fled on foot.
Police received a 911 call at 4:17 p.m. Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper said Wise's wife, Cindy, made the call from inside the building.
"My heart goes our for the family, losing their dad, and I guess having to witness it during this time of year," Camper told CNN affiliate KARK. "It's definitely going to be hard on the kids."
Wise had been active in the Salvation Army for 16 years and was assigned to the Baring Cross neighborhood of North Little Rock for the past three years.
Area Commander Maj. Harvey Johnson said the Salvation Army will hold a news conference on Christmas Day.
"We would hope that whoever the perpetrators are would step forward," he said.

MAN CHARGED WITH OPEN FIRING INTO A VEHICLE AND KILLING AN 11 YEAR OLD BOY & WOUNDING HIS DAD...(this is insane)
A 31-year-old man was charged today with killing an 11-year-old boy who was sitting in a car with his father earlier this month in the South Shore neighborhood.
Timothy Dockery of the 7800 block of south Kingston Avenue was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and four counts of delivery of a controlled substance, Chicago police said in a news release.
Dockery is accused of firing a shotgun at the father and boy Dec. 11 while the pair sat in a car on that block of Kingston Avenue, police said.
Ashton Wise, of the 6800 block of South East End Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy found the boy died from a shotgun wound to his face and his death was ruled a homicide.
At the time of the shooting, police said they believed the victims were not the targets.
According to Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis, the gunman may have been looking for a relative of the victims.
"You have a young boy and his father, no affiliation with gangs whatsoever. One level away, we have a half-brother who's a documented member of the Black Disciples,'' said Weis. "Unfortunately, in that area there is a gang conflict going on between the Gangster Disciples and the Black Disciples."
Ashton and his father, Kenneth Wise, 42, were shot about 8:25 p.m. Dec. 11 near East 78th Street and South Kingston Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood when the gunman approached their parked vehicle and opened fire.
Ashton was shot in the head and was dead at the scene, authorities said.
The father drove the vehicle to the 1800 block of East 79th Street, where he crashed into two parked cars and a day care center, authorities said. No one else was injured.
Kenneth Wise was shot in his arm and back and taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was expected to survive his wounds.
Dorence Robinson, who identified himself as Kenneth Wise's stepbrother, vehemently denied that the relative Weis mentioned was in a gang or that the shooting was gang-related.

A serial mugger caught on video beating a 62-year-old beloved Brooklyn Catholic school teacher was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday.
Eric Ferguson, 19, showed no remorse as Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice William Garnett sent him to prison for a series of brutal robberies.
None of the Ferguson's six victims, including Catholic school teacher Patricia McGowan, was in court when Ferguson's punishment was handed down.
"I don't want to comment," McGowan said when contacted after the hearing.
Ferguson's one-man crime spree was punctuated by the June 2008 mugging of McGowan outside the Good Shepherd School in Marine Park.
The crime was caught on surveillance video and showed Ferguson punching McGowan in the face and ripping her purse from her hands.
The robbery was so shocking, Ferguson's own mother called it "reprehensible" and publicly apologized to McGowan.
Ferguson faced a maximum of 25 years in prison, but copped a plea for a lower sentence.
Prosecutors said all the victims, all from Brooklyn, approved of the plea deal.

16 YEAR OLD ARRESTED IN WEEKEND SHOOTING DEATH
A second person was charged today in a weekend shooting in Oswego in which an East Aurora High School student was killed in what police believe was a gang-related incident.
Francisco D. Salazar, 20, of Aurora was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to Oswego police and the Kendall County State's Atty. Eric Wies.
On Monday, police charged Zachary Reyes, 16, of murder for the shooting death of Jason Ventura, a 17-year old high school student.
According to reports, Ventura was driving his car accompanied by two other people car around 12:50 a.m. Sunday near Oswego, when Reyes, who was in a second car along with Salazar, opened fire. http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com
The gunfire killed Ventura and wounded a second person in his car, identified as Eduardo Gaytan, 18, of Montgomery. He was taken to an Aurora hospital. The third person in the car was not injured, police said.

Cynthia Rennix wept for her 25-year-old daughter Eutisha Revee Rennix, who died after collapsing in front of two FDNY EMTs who were buying bagels at the shop where she worked - but declined to help.
"They are useless. They are heartless," said Rennix, surrounded by relatives in her Flatlands home. "They are trained. They should be more responsive."
The expectant mom was working Dec. 9 at the Au Bon Pain at Metrotech in downtown Brooklyn, steps from FDNY headquarters, when she felt shortness of breath and intense stomach pain, her relatives said.
Co-workers said they begged two EMTs in the store to help, but they only callously turned and said, "Call 911" before walking out with their food.
"Those EMS workers who didn't help. ...She would have been alive," said a colleague who asked that her name not be used.

Law enforcement agencies across the midstate are searching for 34-year-old Robert Adams, of La Vergne, also known as Tracy Greer, whom they consider armed and dangerous.
Adams told attorney Kirk Catron he had to go to the emergency room after the jury went to its chambers following closing arguments, according to the release.
After a dinner break, the jury returned with its verdicts but Adams was not present. He reportedly texted Catron, saying he couldn’t do a life sentence, the Sheriff's Office reports. http://www.tennessean.com

A Memphis attorney is being sued in connection with biting off a portion of a man's nose at a Midtown restaurant.
In a lawsuit filed this week by Greg Herbers, 48, local trial attorney Mark Lambert is accused of biting off part of Herbers' nose during a fight last June at Dish in Cooper Young.
The dispute started when Herbers, a self-employed hairstylist, entered the restroom around 9 p.m. and noticed the one stall was occupied by two men "performing some activity other than going to the bathroom."
Herbers claims that when he told the men he needed to use the toilet, Lambert, who was standing at the urinal but appeared to know the men in the stall, became aggressive.
Lambert allegedly approached Herbers in a "menacing" fashion and jumped on him, grabbing his head and clawing at his neck.
Herbers said the next thing he felt was an excruciating pain. He heard teeth crunch and noticed blood pouring from his left nostril. One of the other men in the stall screamed, "What the (expletive) are you doing? according to the suit. (tennessean.com)

Murphy was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. PT Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart told CNN Radio.
No other details were immediately available.
Murphy starred in several movies, including "Clueless," "Don't Say a Word," and "8 Mile." She also voiced the character Luanne on the animated TV series "King of the Hill."
"In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support," Murphy's publicist, Nicole Perna, said in a statement. "It is their wish that you respect their privacy."
Murphy is survived by her husband, Simon Monjack, whom she married in 2007.

Lacey was last seen wearing school clothes: gray pants, a navy blue polo shirt, a navy blue sweater, a brown coat, and black gym shoes.
She is black, stands about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs about 110 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes, with a light complexion. She also has pierced ears.

A South Side father accused of permanently scarring his baby daughter by holding her hands beneath scalding water was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bond this afternoon by Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil.
Kent Houston, 21, is charged with aggravated battery of a child, a felony. Prosecutors accused him of holding his 16-month-old daughter's hands under scalding water for between 15 seconds and a minute in a kitchen sink at his home in the 6600 block of South Laflin Street in the Englewood neighborhood.
The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. Oct. 23rd, said Assistant State's Attorney Martha Kross. Houston did not seek medical attention for the girl until the next morning despite blisters covering both of her hands, Kross said.
Doctors who treated the girl found third-degree burns over the majority of both hands and said she'll be permanently scarred, Kross said. Houston told police he was just washing his daughter's hands and didn't intend to hurt her, according to court documents. He didn't speak at his bond court hearing today.

An argument between two men in wheelchairs ended in deadly violence early Saturday when one stabbed the other after being gashed on the head, police and witnesses said.
A resident of Barrier-Free Living, an assisted-living facility in the East Village, said the killer managed to corner the victim because he was using a motorized wheelchair.
The battle started in the early morning hours when a 24-year-old resident smashed a 51-year-old with the footrest of his wheelchair, said resident Norbert Toledo.
"There was an argument over nothing," said Toledo, who is the victim's roommate.
The older man was enraged and some time later zoomed over to his victim - who was using a manually operated wheelchair - and repeatedly stabbed him with a homemade knife.
"[He] sped up to him and began stabbing him over and over again," Toledo, who said he watched the murder with guards on a security monitor.
"We couldn't believe what we were seeing."
The victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he died. Cops recovered the knife at the scene and arrested the 51-year-old man. Charges were pending.
Rafael Espinoza, 64, a friend of the victim, said the facility is dangerous.
"[He] was a great guy," Espinoza said. "I'm in shock that he is gone but I'm not surprised. This is a violent place."

Darrell Gresham, 18, was fatally shot in the chest Thursday night while hanging out with two friends in a car in Crown Heights. A gunman had walked up to the car on Hampton Place and started firing.
A police source said Gresham was not the intended target. It's not known whether the other two were hit.
His buddies, who were not identified, drove him to Interfaith Hospital and dumped him in the emergency room before fleeing, cops and relatives said.
By the time doctors got to Gresham, he was dead.
"I can't believe they just dumped my baby at the hospital," said Darrell Gresham Sr.
"Everyone loved him," said grandma Cheryl Gresham, 64.
The dad - who spoke by phone to his son in the car minutes before the 8:20 p.m. shooting - said he heard the shots. He went to check on his son, but the car was gone.
A short time later, he was called to identify his boy's body.
"Darrell was everything to me," Gresham, 42, said. "He was a hard worker and a quiet boy who didn't get into trouble."

PEORIA — Police are investigating the armed robbery early Friday of a Lexington Hills resident who let a friend into her apartment to watch television.
Shortly after 5 a.m., Michelle Brown, 19, answered a knock at her 3447 W. Sunburst Lane apartment door, police reports stated. When she opened the door, there stood her friend, Darnell M. McGee, 22.
Brown invited McGee inside, and for the next 45 minutes they watched television together, police said.
McGee then pulled out a handgun, pointed it at Brown and demanded she give him money, police said.
After Brown, 19, handed over an undisclosed amount of money, McGee fled the apartment and was last seen running toward Fallen Oak Court, police said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Law enforcement agencies across the mid-state have been on the lookout for an armed and dangerous convicted felon who took off during his attempted murder and kidnapping trial.
Robert Adams, 34, was free on bond Thursday during his trial for his participation in a December 2007 drug-related shooting.
Before the verdict was reached, Adams told his attorney he had to go the Emergency Room. He never returned. The jury found Adams guilty on charges of attempted murder.
Later in the evening, Adams allegedly texted his attorney that he could not spend the rest of his life in prison.
"I had no idea he would leave, and why then, it seems it would be better to flee prior to the trial. Robert was a good client, but he left, and I had nothing to do with it," said Adams' Attorney, Kirk Catron.
There has been no word on the 34-year-old's direction of flight, but his last known addresses are in Lavergne.
"We'll catch him again, that's what we do. He's done bad thing in the past, and we hope he doesn't do too many bad things before he comes back into law enforcement's hands," said Rutherford County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Dan Goodwin.

Cummings told her he wanted to watch the movie with her and that "she was going to be his sex slave," the report shows. He then allegedly groped her, and when she told him to stop, he began to choke her. He then let go of her neck, punched her and ripped off her nightgown, the victim said. She told Cummings she was going to call the police, and he left.
Officers found Cummings at his home and arrested him around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on a charge of battery. He was taken to the Sarasota County Jail, where bond was set at $1,000.

WESTFORD, Vt. (AP) — A woman who took in her Alzheimer's disease-suffering mother was charged Thursday with shooting her three years ago, burning her body in the backyard and then having her son — the victim's grandson — bury the remains before reporting her as a missing person.
Jeanne Sevigny, 59, killed her mother, Mary Wilcox, because she had become a burden, prosecutors said.
Investigators said Sevigny burned the body, put the remains in a suitcase and brought the luggage to her son, who then buried it near an elementary school. She then told police the 78-year-old disappeared after overhearing her talking about putting her in a nursing home, authorities said.
Sevigny was charged with second-degree murder. Her 30-year-old son, Greg Sevigny, was charged with unlawful disposal of a body.
Jeanne Sevigny's lawyer, John St. Francis, said Sevigny found her mother with a pistol and was trying to wrest it from her when it went off, shooting Wilcox in the chest. Sevigny then panicked, St. Francis said.
"The poor decision-making afterwards is why we're here," he said. "Had she taken different steps, I don't think we'd be here now. But it's certainly not a homicide. It's an accident."

If all goes as planned in a Florida courtroom Thursday, Bain, 54, will be allowed to go home for the first time in 35 years -- free from his life sentence thanks to a DNA test that showed he was not the man who took a 9-year-old Lake Wales, Florida, boy from his bed in 1974 and raped him.
"It's just hard to believe," said Bain's mother, Sarah Reed, who has been in and out of hospitals in recent years.
"He was just a child when he went in there. I've been trying to hold on. I've had things wrong with me, and I was afraid I wouldn't be here when he got out," she told CNN.
Of the 245 people in the United States who have been exonerated by DNA testing, none has spent more time behind bars than Bain, according to the Innocence Project, a national organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing.
"I thanked the Lord. He must have did it for a reason," Reed said. "The Lord has a reason for putting him in here, and he has a reason for keeping me around for me to see this."

The most prolific known serial killer in U.S. history, Ridgway is serving 48 consecutive life sentences. He has denied involvement in Girdner's death, as well as that of Tammie Liles, whose remains were found near Girdner's.
Girdner was 16 when she was reported missing by her parents in May 1983, authorities said. She was a straight-A student at her Catholic high school "until she met the wrong people," they said.
