14 YEAR OLD BOY WHO WAS SHOT ON HIS WAY TO SCHOOL IS LEFT PARALYZED
Family members and others close to a 14-year-old boy who was shot this week on his way to his West Side school gathered today at the boy's family church for a public prayer.
The family said that Danny Gilmore, a freshman at Douglass Academy High School who was shot multiple times Tuesday morning as he walked to school, was left paralyzed from the waist down.
"He will need extensive physical therapy," said an aunt, Angela Gilmore, 38.
The Rev. Ira Acree, pastor at Greater St. John Bible Church, where about 60 people gathered Wednesday, said he was told that a bullet ricocheted off the teen's buttocks, another one hit his lungs and another is still lodged in his right shoulder.
"He's doing a little bit better," said Acree, who visited Danny at Loyola University Medical Center. "He's not in the best of spirits, but that's to be expected."
Among the topics discussed at the open prayer and forum was the surge of recent gun violence in the Austin community and its effect on the area's youth.
The gunman, who was on foot and approached Danny from behind, appeared to target him, but that also remained under investigation, along with whether it was a case of mistaken identity, law enforcement sources said.
An 18-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday evening, the sources said. No charges have been filed as of this evening. A motive for the shooting was unknown--http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/

MAN PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO MURDERS OF THREE FAMILY MEMBERS
April 7, 2010 (WHEATON, Ill.) (WLS) -- Jacob Nodarse, 23, pleaded not guilty in the murders of three family members in Darien.
Nodarse faces a 22-count indictment that includes murder charges.
DuPage County prosecutors say Nodarse killed Jeffrey Kramer, 50; his wife, Lori Kramer, 48; and their son, Michael Kramer, 20; during a home invasion at the beginning of March.
Investigators say Nodarse broke in after being convinced to do so by 28-year-old Johnny Borizov of Willow Springs. Borizov has a 14-month-old son with the Kramers' daughter, Angela, 25. Angela survived the attack and called 911 from a closet.
During Wednesday's court appearance, the Countryside resident held his head down and let his attorney do most of the talking. His lawyer waived the reading of the 22 charges and pleaded not guilty.
"They presented the 22-count indictment. It was not totally unexpected, included murder charges, conspiracy charges, home invasion," Randy Rueckert, Nodarse's attorney, said. "So we pled not guilty. I see this as the first step in a process. The process will probably take quite a while. Take it step by step."
Two of Nodarse's friends were in court Wednesday and said they loved him and do not understand how he could be accused of such a horrific crime. They said that they were going over to visit him in jail, following the hearing.
No one from the Kramer family was in court Wednesday.
Borizov pleaded not guilty to his charges last week. Borizov and Angela Kramer had a custody hearing scheduled for Wednesday, but it was continued until Monday. (ABC-WLS)

51 YEAR OLD MAN ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A 7 YEAR OLD GIRL (while watching a porn movie)
PEKIN — A Pekin man is accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old child while watching a pornographic movie in March.
Franklin Shue, 51, of Pekin was charged Monday with predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony. He remains in the Tazewell County Justice Center with a $250,000 bond.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services notified Pekin police March 31 that it had received a report that a girl was being sexually assaulted in a Pekin home by Shue.
The child told police she was alone in a room with Shue watching television with a movie showing "where people had their clothes off" when he allegedly raped her.

April 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) -- A federal appeals court on Wednesday upheld an Illinois father's claim that he was falsely arrested for the murder of his 3-year-old daughter, but reduced the jury's original $12.2 million award to less than $1 million.
Kevin Fox, who spent eight months in jail before he was cleared by DNA evidence, and his wife, Melissa, were thrilled by the court's decision and not surprised by the compensation cut, their attorney said. The couple filed a lawsuit against five Will County sheriff's detectives in 2007. "The court totally accepted their version of the facts. Justice is alive and well," said attorney Kathleen Zellner.
The court dismissed one of Fox's claims, that he was denied due process. It also cut the jury's awarded damages to $8,166,000, which Zellner said was expected because the original amount was extraordinarily high.
The Will County state's attorney's office said in a statement that "no finding of liability should have been upheld" and officials were reviewing their options. One detective named in the lawsuit died before it went to trial. Attorneys for the other four and two insurance companies were not available for comment Wednesday.
"We firmly believe these deputies had probable cause to arrest Mr. Fox based upon the information that was known to them at the time," the statement said.
Riley Fox vanished from her Wilmington home in June 2004, and was later found drowned in a creek four miles away. Months later, her father was charged after implicating himself under intense questioning.
He later said he had lost hope during a 14 1/2-hour overnight interrogation and made his statement when promised leniency in exchange.
Police knew he was innocent and framed him, Zellner, who represented the couple in the lawsuit, argued at the trial.
DNA evidence gathered from the girl and duct tape placed over her mouth eventually showed that her father was not her killer. He was freed and the murder remains unsolved. (ABC-WLS)

The slaying of Eric Steven Scott continues a spate of recent violence that has rocked Jacksonville. Scott is the seventh person slain in the past 10 days in citywide attacks that have included arguments, a drive-by shooting and an ambush robbery.
A police officer spotted Scott's body about 1:10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Arbor Place apartment complex at 5800 S. Barnes Road. Police have yet to officially identify Scott. They haven't said how he died or what the motive may have been. No arrests have been reported.
Scott's family said they don't know who attacked him or why. They said he had been at a party in Springfield with some friends, but they don't know why he went to the apartment complex, where an older brother lives.

Two British women who allegedly tried to smuggle a dead relative onto a flight out of England were arrested, Sky News reported Tuesday.
The suspects pushed the 91-year-old man in a wheelchair and covered his face with sunglasses during a bid to board him on their flight to Berlin, sources said.
The women, aged 41 and 66, were said to have protested that the deceased was merely asleep when probed by officials Saturday at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
It is believed the pair somehow managed to ferry the corpse in a taxi from their home in Oldham, northwestern England, to the terminal.
But the alleged attempt to smuggle the body to Germany was foiled after airport staff started asking questions.
"Police at Liverpool John Lennon Airport were alerted to the death of a 91-year-old man in the terminal building," a police spokesman said.
"Two women aged 41 and 66 were arrested on suspicion of failing to give notification of death. They have been released on bail until June 1. The coroner has been informed and police are continuing with their inquiries." ---http://www.dailybreeze.com/

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three people were shot after an angry patron was denied entrance to a popular nightclub in downtown Nashville.
The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. outside the Atlantis Ultralounge on 3rd Avenue North. The male suspect was apparently denied entrance because of the way he was dressed.
Police said the male suspect left the club, but returned and attempted to get in again. The man was denied entrance a second time by the same security guard.
The suspect apparently left the club again. Investigators believed the man drove by the club a short time later and opened fire at the club. Investigators said three victims were injured with the same bullet.
A 21-year-old Tennessee State University student was shot in the chest. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Officials said the student was later upgraded to stable condition.
A 27-year-old victim was shot in the hand. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center. One other victim was grazed by the bullet and treated by firefighters at the scene.
Investigators were looking through surveillance video from outside the club for clues to the suspect's identity.
