16 YEAR OLD JOLIET TEEN SHOT AND KILLED AS HE STOOD IN CROWD...
Herschel Brown, a Joliet Township High School District student, is Joliet's fifth homicide victim in 2010.
Brown, 16, was pronounced dead Monday at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood of a bullet wound to the head, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy was performed today and the death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
Brown had been taken to Loyola from Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet following the shooting at 9:40 p.m. Saturday four blocks from his home on the 1500 block of Arthur Avenue.
Deputy Police Chief Mike Trafton Tuesday described Brown as a student at Joliet Township Alternate School who had never been in trouble with the law. Investigators, he said, are unsure whether Brown was the intended target.
The teen was standing with a group at Cardinal Lane and Fairmont Avenue when someone used a handgun to fire "multiple shots" toward the group, Trafton said.
Brown was taken to Silver Cross then airlifted to Loyola. A 17-year-old whose arm was grazed by a bullet was also treated at the hospital, Trafton said.
Trafton said investigators have two suspects in the case.

Chicago police are seeking the public's help today in finding two men who they say sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on the South Side Monday.
The girl was walking in the 9300 block of South Greenwood Avenue in the Burnside neighborhood about 9 a.m. that day when the men allegedly followed her in their black four-door truck and tried to lure her into it. When she resisted, police said, one of the men exited the vehicle, grabbed the girl and forced her into the vehicle.
The girl was then driven to the 2400 block of East 100th Street, in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood on the Southeast Side, where she was sexually assaulted, police said.
One of the men is described as black with a dark complexion, 20 to 25 years old, standing between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 120 to 130 pounds with brown eyes, black dreadlocks with light brown ends, a mustache and a goatee, police said. He was wearing a white T-shirt, light blue jeans, multi-colored Nike gym shoes and had two earrings in his ear, police added.
The other man is described as black with a medium complexion, 20 to 25 years old, standing between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 120 to 130 pounds with hazel eyes and short black hair. They added that he was wearing a black or white short-sleeved shirt and dark jeans.
Police could not provide a more comprehensive description of their truck.

Apr. 13, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Police are searching for the person who beat and stabbed a 57-year-old woman to death inside her West Side apartment.
Regina McGraw was found dead Monday night in her second-story apartment in the 900-block of S. Sacramento in the Lawndale community. Investigators say her body had begun to decompose.
"Regina was a sweet person. She gave her heart out to everyone," said Jerry McGraw, the victim's uncle. "I used to tell her, 'Regina, you can't allow everybody in your house - you just can't do it.'"
Jerry McGraw, the man who raised Regina, is now offering a $1,500 reward for information about the suspect.
Police and McGraw's family believe robbery was the motive for the killing.
"I'm thinking that this was a waste. Someone committed a crime, a heinous crime, of this nature, just to get a flat-screen TV," said McGraw. "They will have to pay the price."
Zelda McGraw, the victim's sister, said she doesn't know who would have wanted to kill Regina, a woman Zelda said was respected in the community for going out of her way to help the less fortunate in the neighborhood.
"The neighborhood loved my sister. She was a very good person. She didn't bother anyone," said Zelda. "If you didn't have no food, she would give you food."
Zelda said whoever killed her sister took heirloom valuables from her apartment in addition to the flat-screen TV.
Neighbor Ray Taylor was found McGraw's body after noticing the door to her apartment was slightly ajar.
"I went in and looked and then called the authorities," said Taylor.--

14 YEAR OLD BOY KILLS SLEEPING DAD WITH SLEDGEHAMMER
(AFP) - A 14-year-old boy in southern Russia was charged with killing his father with a sledgehammer after his parents tried to stop him from playing computer games, officials said Tuesday.
The unnamed boy in the coastal town of Tuapse, located by the Black Sea in Russia's southern Krasnodar region, bludgeoned his father to death while he lay sleeping, regional investigators said in a statement.
"At around 1:00 a.m. on April 12, the suspect dealt his sleeping father at least two blows on the head with a sledgehammer. The man died on the spot from a head injury," the region's investigative committee said in a statement.
"The parents had taken away the keyboard as a disciplinary measure after he spent a week playing computer games," said Inna Biryukova, a spokeswoman for Krasnodar investigators.
After the killing, the boy's frightened mother gave him the keyboard back and the boy played computer games for several more hours until he fell asleep, Biryukova said.
At that point, the mother, who was not injured, contacted relatives who in turn called police.
The boy, who has no criminal record, is now being held in pre-trial detention, Biryukova said.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 41-year-old North Chicago woman whose nude body was found in a backyard near her home early Saturday.
Jeanenne Cohn was found 4 a.m. Saturday with blunt trauma to her face in a yard on the 1400 block of Victoria Avenue. She lived in the 1500 block, near the residence of the man accused in her slaying, Michael A. Otero, police said.
Police have not revealed any connection between Otero and Cohn.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said the cause of Cohn's death will be determined when he receives the results of toxicology tests and a final ruling from a pathologist, which he said he hopes will come later this afternoon.

Police have charged a man in the fatal shooting of another man and the wounding of that victim's cousin during a block party Sunday near Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
Damon V. Williams, 36, of the 3400 block of Eve Drive West, is charged in the slaying of Andre D. "Mookie" Moore, 22, of the 6700 block of Miss Muffet Lane South. Williams is also charged with shooting Moore's cousin, David Walker, 28, who survived.
The shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. outside Tailgater's Bar and Grill at the foot of the Haines Street Expressway. About 200 people were at the party, which has become a weekly event, said Lt. Larry Schmitt of the Sheriff's Office homicide unit.
Schmitt said investigators were told the shooting followed a fight between Williams and Moore. Schmitt said more than one person may have fired a weapon, but police have made no other arrests.
Moore, shot in the chest and wrist, was taken by ambulance to Shands Jacksonville hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Walker was taken to the hospital by private car. He is in stable condition, Schmitt said.
Williams was caught in the parking lot by off-duty police officers, who were hired as security by the people who staged the party, Schmitt said. Schmitt said the officers, who heard the gunshots, found Ecstasy pills and marijuana on Williams. Police are still looking for the gun.

17 YEAR OLD SHOT IN HEAD WHEN HE SURPRISED INTRUDERS
A Fort Worth high school student was in critical condition Monday after being shot in the head by intruders in his home.
Police said the 17-year-old and his 21-year-old sister went to their home in the 6400 block of Poco Court to have lunch.
Fort Worth police said the intruders were already in the home. The sister ran out of the house, re-entered and discovered that her brother had been shot.
Police did not name the victim, but a Southwest High coach confirmed that he is senior Eric Forrester, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He is an honor student at Southwest and a member of the swim team. He is also an Eagle Scout.
Neighbors at a nearby apartment complex said they saw the two intruders, one carrying a laptop computer.
