A former Jacksonville firefighter has been charged with a rape that happened in 2006 while he was employed by the fire department.
Daniel W. Foote, 54, who was already on house arrest in another case, was arrested Wednesday and is in the Duval County jail on $300,000 bail, according to jail records.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Tom Francis said the latest charges against the former firefighter are serious, and they will offer any the help the Sheriff's Office needs in the investigation.
"These revelations come as a shocking surprise and impugn his character to a degree no one could have possibly foreseen," Francis said. "The department is not aware of all the intricate details affiliated with this case, but whatever level of cooperation is needed from us is assured."
According to the arrest report, the victim was in her residence vacuuming in August 2006 when she turned around and saw a strange man standing in front of her. The man threw her against the couch, forced her into the bedroom and raped her.
Police, at the time, were unable to identify a suspect. But when Foote was convicted of a separate crime last year, police obtained his DNA. A database analysis came back this year linking Foote's DNA with the DNA taken from the rape kit in 2006, the arrest report said.
Foote, an engineer, was arrested in October 2009 after an undercover investigation into unauthorized visits to an inmate work crew he supervised.--jacksonville.com

TENNESSEE COUPLE BEATEN BY SON-IN-LAW...
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A couple was seriously beaten in an attack Friday morning at a home in Clarksville. Police are searching for their son-in-law, who they said is dangerous.
Clarksville police said Timmy Lee Roberts beat up his wife's parents with a blunt object.
The father-in-law had to be airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition. The mother-in-law is in serious condition at Gateway Medical Center.

CHILDREN WERE REMOVED FROM A HOME BY DCS AFTER COPS FOUND FECES ON WALL...
Two young boys were removed from their home by Department of Children’s Services workers Wednesday after officers reported finding them living in a room with feces on the wall and ripped-apart dirty diapers on the floor, among numerous other things.
According to an Alcoa police report, officers responded to the Alcoa home on Wednesday at about 7 p.m. for a welfare check on the children — boys aged 2 and 1.
“Dispatch advised the house was very messy,” the report said.
“Very messy” was an understatement according to the officer’s description of the residence, starting with his first step into the house.
“As you stepped inside, my feet stuck to the carpet on an unknown substance,” the officer wrote.
The less-than flattering description of the house continued as the officer got farther inside: “The living room floor was covered in filth with clothes and food all over ... there were open rat stick pads around the door to one of the bedrooms. On the end table I observed food that was covered with ants and covered in mold.”
The children’s bedroom was covered in dirty clothes, ripped-apart used diapers and rotten food, the officer continued, also noting the “human feces wiped on the wall.”
When the officer finally made contact with the children, they were allegedly in a similar condition.

ALCOHOL MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WOMAN'S HOT TUB DROWNING DEATH
Authorities were called to a home in the 500 block of Grant Street at about 5 a.m. today, where the woman was found in the hot tub on the back porch patio, said Hendricks County Coroner Joe Neuman.
Neuman said the woman lived in the home with her boyfriend, who last saw her in the hot tub at midnight.
He said there was no evidence of foul play and the woman had no apparent injuries to her body.
Brownsburg police Capt. Jeff Gray identified the victim as Dawn Huddleston, 37. The boyfriend found her body face-down in the hot tub after he was awakened by his barking dog.

PEARL, Miss. - A white supremacist lawyer with a knack for publicity was found stabbed to death in a burning house on Thursday and Mississippi authorities later said a neighbor had been charged with murder.
Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said Richard Barrett's body was found just after 8 a.m. after residents reported smoke coming from his house in a rural area outside a Jackson, Miss., suburb.
Pennington told The Associated Press that Vincent McGee, 22, has been charged with murder in the case. Additional charges could be forthcoming, Pennington said, including arson.
The sheriff said McGee had not yet hired a lawyer and the suspect's mother had no comment when she went to the jail where her son was

TWO WOMEN BEATEN WITH BASEBALL BAT AND ROBBED....
Two women were beaten with a baseball bat and robbed while walking home early Friday morning in the Bucktown neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
A man approached the women -- ages 23 and 24 -- while they were walking in the 1800 block of North Damen Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Friday, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. He struck both of them in the head with a bat before taking their purses.
The 23-year-old immediately fell unconscious while the 24-year-old was able to give a statement to police before also falling unconscious, Perez said.
The women were walking under the viaduct at 1801 N. Damen Ave. when the 24-year-old felt intense pain the back of her head and then was struck again, police said. She saw her friend drop to the ground and the man picked up both their purses before fleeing south on Damen.
The man got away with a large leather bag with a Blackberry cell phone, Sony camera and various other personal items including credit cards, which belonged to the 24-year-old, police said. The 23-year-old had a Coach purse.
The 24-year-old lives in the area, but it is unlikely the women were targeted, according to police, who called it a “crime of opportunity.”
Fire crews were called to the scene for a “wash out,” police said.
The 23-year-old remains in critical condition and the 24-year-old is in “serious but stable” condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Perez said.
The suspect is described as black male 27 to 34, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 with a medium complexion, wearing a tan or light-colored hooded sweatshirt.
