WOMAN FOUND MURDERED IN HER NORTH PEORIA HOME

PEORIA — A North Peoria woman was found dead at her apartment Tuesday morning, apparently the result of suspicious injuries, police said.

Peoria police and the Peoria County Coroner’s office are both treating the death as a homicide, which could be the city’s 10th this year.

The victim was identified as Taji R. Cross, 20, a 2009 Richwoods High School graduate. Few other details have been released, including her cause of death.

Cross's boyfriend was taken to police headquarters for questioning. He is currently not a suspect, Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard said. However, his car was towed from the scene as a “vehicle of interest.”

The nature of the injuries, he said, are causing police to treat her death as a homicide for now.

Police were called to the Tiffany Court Apartments, 1508 W. Tiffany Drive, Apt. 11A, about 11:15 a.m. Cross's boyfriend had called police to report finding her body.

Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said “the injuries appear to be significant and do not appear accidental.”

She said an autopsy would be conducted Wednesday. She did not give a preliminary cause of death and did not know when the woman had died, saying only that “death did not just occur.”

Cross had just recently moved to the complex, Ingersoll said.

The apartment complex is located off University Street near the Tanglewood Shopping Center. Yellow tape criss-crossed the street and several residents of the complex were barred from getting back into their apartment. MAN ARRESTED IN SISTER'S COLD CASE MURDER

Bradford County deputies charged a Graham drug suspect this morning with murdering his sister, whose body was found last month, seven years after she disappeared.

Tracy Austin Hall, 28, is charged with second-degree murder in the 2003 shooting of Pamela Hall, 24. A drug investigation unearthed leads that led police to her body hidden in a pile of brush at a Graham cemetery after years of unverified rumors that she'd been murdered, said Capt. Brad Smith, spokesman for the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.

Smith said the homicide investigation revealed that Pamela Hall, a known drug abuser wanted on several worthless check warrants, was shot numerous times in the head because she had taken money from her brother.

Tracy Hall has been in the Bradford County jail since March 9 on drug trafficking charges in lieu of $500,000 bail.---jacksonville.com

TEEN GIRL SUSPECTED OF MURDERING HER RAPIST....

A 45-year-old London man who was accused of sexually attacking a 14-year-old girl before charges were dropped was stabbed to death, and one of the murder suspects is his teen accuser.

Robert Daley was found with knife wounds to his chest in a pool of blood in the doorway of his south London apartment Friday, days after Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was not enough evidence to charge him in the sex attack on the teen, London's Daily Mail reported.

The mortally wounded man was able to give his name to police and paramedics, but died soon afterward, the newspaper stated.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in the slaying Saturday, police told the Mail. Late Sunday, the 14-year-old was detained. Sources confirmed that the girl is the same one who accused Daley of sexual assault, the Daily Mail reported.

The sex charges and the alleged "vigilante" murder have shocked neighbors in his Brixton neighborhood.

"He was a decent neighbor who had never caused any problems," Barry Boreland told the Daily Mail.

The 14-year-old was allegedly furious that after an investigation by a Metropolitan Police child protection team, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge Daley.

While Daley's friend Nicholas Walker described the unemployed builder and plasterer as a "gentle giant," another friend, David Eden, said he was "a bit of a ladies man."

"He and a friend would go to nightclubs together and fancied themselves a bit with women," Eden told the Daily Mail.

"But there was nothing malicious or nasty about him. He was very genuine and good natured."

Scotland Yard confirmed a teenage girl was arrested in connection with the slaying, and the 18-year-old man charged in connection with the slaying was released on bail with a court date scheduled next month.

FOUR YEAR OLD GIRL FOUND WANDERING ON HIGHWAY...

PORTLAND, Tenn. - A 4-year-old was found injured and alone by a driver on the Highway 109 bypass in Sumner County Monday night. Police said that Chelsea Wilson was in a truck with her father when she fell out.

Officials said the man did not realize the girl had hopped into the back of a trailer he was hauling.

"The father of the child had been doing some remodeling on the home. He had loaded the trailer with scraps, carpet and some other things, and apparently the child had hidden in the pile of scraps on the trailer," said Sumner County Sheriff Bob Barker.

The sheriff said they believed the incident was an unfortunate accident.

"The father was hauling the trailer down to Hendersonville to dump the debris and scraps – not knowing that the child was on that trailer or in that trailer. The child either jumped or fell off," said Barker.

Officials said the mother called police when she realized the girl was missing. Chelsea was transported to Sumner Regional Medical to be treated for her injuries. She was later discharged.

MAN ARRESTED FOR THE GRUESOME MURDER OF HIS MOTHER...CON'T

Family members found Ling's body inside her home about 1:15 p.m. Sunday and called police. Shortly after that, police received another call about the discovery of a head in a bag a few blocks away in one of the empty grassy lots that rings Dot and Tyler streets.

Ling's boyfriend said he had spoken to her on the telephone about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, and she indicated her son was with her. Witnesses at the site of the decapitated head's discovery said they saw the son walk to the back of a lot about 9:50 p.m. carrying a bag, then return without it a few minutes later.

At 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Henry's father saw his son with injuries to his head but was told he'd been beaten by some men. Police wouldn't say where Henry's injuries came from, his arrest photograph showing an obvious bruise on his forehead.

When Henry went to church Sunday morning, members saw the blood and the head injury and called police. He came to the Sheriff's Office with family members for an interview but didn't want to stay after being told he couldn't leave about 1:15 p.m., Schmitt said.

"Henry attempted to force his way out of the homicide office and it took several officers and detectives to subdue him," Schmitt said.

That escape attempt added three counts of battery on a police officer to Henry's docket, said Schmitt, who wouldn't elaborate on what was used to kill his mother or cut off her head. Whether Ling was dead before her head was removed will be up to the medical examiner to determine, he added.

Scratches on his face and blood under his fingernails - that's what members of Jumar D. Henry's church saw Sunday and reported to police.

Little did they know the decapitated body of his mother lie in her home in the 1500 block of West Sixth Street, her head tossed out in a black plastic bag three blocks away.

Police admit they don't know what led up to the gruesome Saturday night death of 43-year-old Jennifer Renee-Henry Ling as her 21-year-old son sits in the Duval County jail charged with murder.

"We don't know at this point. We just don't know," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Larry Schmitt.

As white-suited police evidence technicians combed the tidy one-story home just blocks away from the historic Edward Waters College campus, neighbors wonder what happened too.

One of many watching Monday's forensic investigation from their porches said any time she saw Henry, who lived in the 1000 block of North Liberty Street, he "acted weird." She and others within earshot of the home said they heard nothing Saturday night, but the aftermath horrified Rosetta Mondul, who has lived across the street since 1946.

Ortiz wept openly at the hastily arranged news conference at an Italian restaurant in North Hollywood, saying the support of his family and Jameson's father "just means the world to me."

COUPLE ARRESTED IN LAST WEEK'S BASEBALL BAT ATTACK ON TWO WOMEN..

A man and a woman are in custody in a baseball-bat attack that put two women in the hospital last week, police sources said.

Stacy Jurich, 24, and Natasha McShane, 23, were robbed of their purses and beaten at about 3:30 a.m. Friday under a railroad viaduct in the 1800 block of North Damen.

The baseball bat believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered, sources said.

Police used records from the women’s stolen cell phones and credit cards to track down their attackers, sources said.

The two suspects were taken into custody Monday night.

Jurich and McShane had been out celebrating a glowing job review that Jurich recently received and an internship that McShane received.

The women were walking from a Wicker Park bar to Jurich’s Bucktown home when they were attacked.

McShane is an exchange student from Ireland. She has been studying in a graduate program at the University of Illinois at Chicago since January.

McShane, who is from the village of Silverbridge in Northern Ireland, is in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Jurich is in serious condition at the hospital, authorities said today.

McShane’s family has flown to Chicago from Ireland and Australia.

“We hope to get her back the way she was,” her grandmother, Bernadette McShane, told the Irish Independent newspaper.

McShane has worked part-time for the last few months at Butch McGuire’s Irish Pub on Division Street, said owner Bobby McGuire. Fellow employees and patrons have been raising money for her, he said.

Jurich worked for a Morgan Stanley Smith Barney brokerage office in the west suburbs after graduating from Oak Forest High School and North Central College in Naperville.

Last week, her mother, Wendy Gay Van Etten, called her “a wonderful girl. I wish there were more Stacys in the world and less people like the son of gun who tried to take her out.”

According to the mother, Jurich was struck in the back of the head and was stumbling, dazed, when McShane was struck in the head and left to crumple to the ground, unconscious, in a pool of blood.

When Jurich tried to help McShane, she was struck in the head again, her mother said. Jurich knew she needed to escape and screamed for a taxi to stop, but the cabbie saw the blood on her clothes and kept going. ---http://www.suntimes.com/
