The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with state law enforcement officials to investigate the death of a Tallahassee resident whose body was discovered in an open field near Interstate 95 and Florida 16 on April 28.
Authorities say the death of Florida State University graduate student Vincent Binder, 29, is connected to three prison escapees from Louisiana who were apprehended April 12 by U.S. deputy marshals.
The St. Johns County district medical examiner “determined the manner of death is consistent with homicide,” authorities said in a news release officially identifying Binder.
Tallahassee police were alerted April 8 that Binder had been missing more than a week. Deputy marshals then located a stolen pickup truck in the Miami area they believed was used by the fugitives, and investigators were able to link the fugitives to Binder’s disappearance, authorities said.---jacksonville.com

18 YEAR OLD MAN STEALS FOOT FROM CORPSE (I posted this because I found it to be very eeerie and odd)
A Dallas man was arrested early this morning when he was found carrying a foot stolen from a Pleasant Grove graveyard, police said.
Daniel Staley Daniel Wayne Staley, 18, is accused of digging up a grave and removing a foot from a body at a Jewish cemetery near the 3100 block of Buckner Boulevard.
"He stated that he dug it up from a nearby grave and took the foot from a Jew girl because he wanted the foot,” according to a police report.
Officers were called to the scene about 3:30 a.m. by a witness at the graveyard. When police arrived, Staley approached them and showed them the foot, which he was carrying in a bag with a small hatchet, police said.
Man arrested with foot Staley then led officers to the grave and identified the corpse, whose identity has not been released.
He was placed under arrest on a charge of theft of a human corpse/grave.
Initial reports that the foot was taken from Pleasant Mound Cemetery appeared to be inaccurate. ---http://www.dallasnews.com/

MOM SUING FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF HER 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN LOCKER ROOM...
A Queens mom is suing the city for failing to protect her daughter from a shocking sexual assault by seven boys in a public-school locker room last year.
Teachers were nowhere to be found when the 12-year-old girl was knocked to the ground and dragged off by the predatory gang at Pathways College Preparatory in Hollis.
Seven boys - ages 12 and 13 - were charged in Family Court with forcible touching and sexual abuse after the May 7, 2009, attack.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Education declined to comment.
The suit filed Friday in Queens Supreme Court says the victim was finishing up gym class and was heading to the girls' locker room when she set upon, the lawsuit claims.
They dragged her into the boys' locker room and molested her.
"It was like bedlam in that gym that day," said the girl's lawyer, Lisa Davis.
The girl - now a high school freshman - has transferred to another school and is getting psychological counseling.
"She's not doing well," Davis said.
The suit accuses the 6-12 school of negligence for failing to properly supervise students on school grounds.
Davis said it takes more than metal detectors to keep students safe.
"The absence of weaponry does not alone provide for a safe academic environment," Davis said. "It only begins there."

BOY KILLS STEPDAD BECAUSE HE WAS IN THE WAY...
WARSAW, Ind. -- Two young friends from a quiet, middle-class neighborhood in northern Indiana wanted to run away to Arizona so badly, prosecutors say, that they gunned down a stepfather who stood in the way of their plans.
The two alleged triggermen — ages 15 and 12 — kept the plot a closely guarded secret until the older boy's 49-year-old stepfather, Phillip Danner, was shot to death in his home last week, according to neighbors and family members who testified at a hearing Thursday in which a judge ruled the boys would be tried for murder as adults
But sheriff's Detective Jonathan Tyler testified that the boys and two of their friends, who didn't take part in the actual slaying, plotted for at least a month to kill Danner, so they could run off to Arizona.
On the day of the slaying, the boys met at a park before going to the older boy's home near Lake Wawasee, between Fort Wayne and South Bend, where he had gathered two of Danner's handguns, Tyler said. The two defendants waited in the living room until Danner appeared in a kitchen doorway, Tyler said, then shot him four times -- once in the eye, once in the wrist, and twice in the chest.
Neighbors and family members who testified Thursday said the 15-year-old and 12-year-old were good students who stayed out of serious trouble at school. The worst trouble either had been in came last year when the 15-year-old was put under juvenile court supervision for four months after he shot a BB gun at a neighbor riding a lawn mower.
“Obviously, something's gone very wrong,” the 15-year-old boy's mother said. “I don't know what that is. I would like to know what that is.”---http://www.indystar.com/

MAN FOUND GUILTY OF SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A 16 YEAR OLD GIRL(and videotaping several teenaged girls at a pool party held at his home)
An Aliso Viejo man was found guilty today of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl and secretly videotaping several teenage girls during a pool party at his home.
Jason Alan Marian, 31, was convicted of five felony counts of using a minor for sex acts, two felony counts of sexual penetration of a minor by a foreign object, two felony counts of oral copulation of a minor, a felony count of possession and control of child pornography and a misdemeanor count of secretly filming another with the intent to arouse. He faces up to nine years in prison.
Marian slumped his head in his arms and cried before the verdict was read.
Jurors took about an hour to reach their verdict. Four of the jurors said the decision was made almost immediately and that they spent most of their time discussing why they thought he was guilty.
"It was a no-brainer," said jury foreman Frank Delgado.
"The evidence was just really overwhelming," juror Juan Avalos said.
"I'm very disappointed in the verdict," defense attorney Gary Pohlson said. "I can't believe the jury even did their job."
Marian, who was a dance instructor at the Mission Viejo Dance and Performing Arts Center, invited several of his students, who were 12 and 14 years old, to his home for a pool party on April 14, 2007, Deputy District Attorney Tony Ferrentino said.
One student at the party found the camera, removed it and called her parents to pick her up.---http://www.dailybreeze.com/

5 YEAR OLD BOY BEATEN TO DEATH (Very disturbing to investigators)
The fatal beating of a 5-year-old Gary boy left veteran investigators shaken after they saw deep, dark scars from the back of his head to his knees.
Leon Walker's injuries were inflicted by someone who beat him repeatedly over time, police said.
"It's the worst thing I've ever seen," Gary Police Cmdr. Thomas Decanter Jr. said Thursday.
Investigators are now trying to figure out who did it. The boy's mother was questioned and released.
His father was in custody Thursday night, being questioned. According to a police report, the father told them the boy had complained of a stomachache and told him, "I think I got a boo boo." The father told police he left the room to get Leon something to eat from the kitchen, and then returned to find him unconscious on the ground.
But investigators say they found items at the home that suggest the boy was restrained while he was struck with an object, perhaps a belt.
Leon was to turn 6 on Monday.--http://www.suntimes.com/

NURSE AND MOTHER STABBED TO DEATH BY HUSBAND...
A Brooklyn nurse and mother of three was stabbed to death in the basement of her home Wednesday night in front of her 12-year-old son and a nephew - allegedly by her husband, police and a relative said.
Cops found the body of Martiza Jolliffe, 53, at 7:20 p.m., triggering a massive police sweep of her Canarsie neighborhood.
Cops caught the husband, Noah, 54, hiding at a relative's Stanley Ave. home two hours later. He has prior arrests for reckless endangerment and possession of guns and drugs, they said. Charges were pending Wednesday night.
Jolliffe's brother Fidel Clue, 50, said his sister and the suspect met in their native Panama years ago and have a son, also named Noah, together, but had recently separated.
The victim also has two grown daughters from a previous marriage. Clue said the husband stabbed his wife in a fit of anger in front of their son and nephew Omar, 24.
"He pushed them down to get to my sister," he said.

MEMORIAL FOR 12 YEAR OLD BOY WHO DIED PLAYING CHOKING GAME...
Memorial Set for 12-Year-Old Who Died Playing `Choking Game'
A memorial service is scheduled tonight for a 12- year-old boy who tried to get high by choking himself but died.
Erik Robinson, a sixth-grader at Lincoln Middle School, was found lifeless in his home in the 800 block of 18th Street about 5 p.m. on April 20, according to authorities, who say he used some kind of cord or rope -- a ligature in technical terms.
Apparently, the boy was alone when he died. ABC7 reported that his family was planning an outreach effort to publicize the dangers of what's being called the choking game. The idea is to produce a light-headedness by cutting off the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain.
A memorial service for Erik is scheduled at 7 p.m. at Kehillat Israel, 16019 Sunset Blvd., in Pacific Palisades, the Santa Monica Daily Press reported.
In lieu of flowers, Robinson's mother asked that donations be sent to the nonprofit group Games Adolescents Shouldn't Play.
Anyone with more information about Erik's death was asked to call investigator Maury Sumlin at (310) 458-8437 or Sgt. Ira Rutan at (310) 458- 8959. --http://www.dailybreeze.com/

TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR URINATING ON BUILDING (People do the dumbest things)
Cambridge — After a policeman saw two men urinating on a building, one of them tried to run off and was arrested after a struggle on April 15, according to a police report.
While cruising on Mass. Ave., Officer Michael Logan allegedly spotted two people urinating on a building at 12:53 a.m.
As he stepped out of the car and approached them, he saw that they had their “penises exposed” and were “spraying urine in a circular pattern against the building” next to an illuminated MBTA bus stop. He noted that the Asgard bar was across the street and open, and the street was busy with vehicular and pedestrian traffic so the suspects could be seen.
As they saw him approach, the suspects allegedly began to “hastily walk away,” but the stopped them. One of them apologized and said he was sorry, while the other one walked off saying, “F— him, you don’t have to stop for him. F— him, let’s go.” He was asked to stop, but refused to listen.
Backup units responded and caught him on State Street, where he allegedly kept fighting and cursing. He was handcuffed after a struggle and identified as Shawn Robert Mills, 27, of Cambridge. He was arrested and charged with indecent exposure, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, according to the report.--http://www.wickedlocal.com/

TWO MALE BODIES FOUND IN FLORIDA...
Investigators are trying to determine what happened to two men whose bodies were found in St. Johns County this morning in unrelated cases.
State investigators are searching for evidence in the case of a white man found in a field near the intersection of Interstate 95 and Florida 16 while local officers are attempting to determine what happened to a black man found in a car several miles away.
At 8 a.m. a body was found in the field by agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement looking for evidence in a case, according to a release from the agency.
The discovery may be related to a Leon County investigation, said Sgt. Chuck Mulligan with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. Detectives from that agency are working with the state in the case.
Deputies in St. Johns are also trying to determine what caused the death of a man whose body was found on a rural road southwest of St. Augustine.
The death is suspicious, Mulligan said. The body of the black man was found early today by a deputy investigating what appeared to be an abandoned vehicle on St. Ambrose Church Road.--jacksonville.com

WOMAN FOUND MURDERED IN HER NORTH PEORIA HOME
PEORIA — A North Peoria woman was found dead at her apartment Tuesday morning, apparently the result of suspicious injuries, police said.
Peoria police and the Peoria County Coroner’s office are both treating the death as a homicide, which could be the city’s 10th this year.
The victim was identified as Taji R. Cross, 20, a 2009 Richwoods High School graduate. Few other details have been released, including her cause of death.
Cross's boyfriend was taken to police headquarters for questioning. He is currently not a suspect, Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard said. However, his car was towed from the scene as a “vehicle of interest.”
The nature of the injuries, he said, are causing police to treat her death as a homicide for now.
Police were called to the Tiffany Court Apartments, 1508 W. Tiffany Drive, Apt. 11A, about 11:15 a.m. Cross's boyfriend had called police to report finding her body.
Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said “the injuries appear to be significant and do not appear accidental.”
She said an autopsy would be conducted Wednesday. She did not give a preliminary cause of death and did not know when the woman had died, saying only that “death did not just occur.”
Cross had just recently moved to the complex, Ingersoll said.
The apartment complex is located off University Street near the Tanglewood Shopping Center. Yellow tape criss-crossed the street and several residents of the complex were barred from getting back into their apartment. One woman, who didn’t want her name used, said the area was quiet and not known for such crimes.---http://www.pjstar.com/

Bradford County deputies charged a Graham drug suspect this morning with murdering his sister, whose body was found last month, seven years after she disappeared.
Tracy Austin Hall, 28, is charged with second-degree murder in the 2003 shooting of Pamela Hall, 24. A drug investigation unearthed leads that led police to her body hidden in a pile of brush at a Graham cemetery after years of unverified rumors that she'd been murdered, said Capt. Brad Smith, spokesman for the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.
Smith said the homicide investigation revealed that Pamela Hall, a known drug abuser wanted on several worthless check warrants, was shot numerous times in the head because she had taken money from her brother.
Tracy Hall has been in the Bradford County jail since March 9 on drug trafficking charges in lieu of $500,000 bail.---jacksonville.com

TEEN GIRL SUSPECTED OF MURDERING HER RAPIST....
A 45-year-old London man who was accused of sexually attacking a 14-year-old girl before charges were dropped was stabbed to death, and one of the murder suspects is his teen accuser.
Robert Daley was found with knife wounds to his chest in a pool of blood in the doorway of his south London apartment Friday, days after Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was not enough evidence to charge him in the sex attack on the teen, London's Daily Mail reported.
The mortally wounded man was able to give his name to police and paramedics, but died soon afterward, the newspaper stated.
An 18-year-old man was arrested in the slaying Saturday, police told the Mail. Late Sunday, the 14-year-old was detained. Sources confirmed that the girl is the same one who accused Daley of sexual assault, the Daily Mail reported.
The sex charges and the alleged "vigilante" murder have shocked neighbors in his Brixton neighborhood.
"He was a decent neighbor who had never caused any problems," Barry Boreland told the Daily Mail.
The 14-year-old was allegedly furious that after an investigation by a Metropolitan Police child protection team, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge Daley.
While Daley's friend Nicholas Walker described the unemployed builder and plasterer as a "gentle giant," another friend, David Eden, said he was "a bit of a ladies man."
"He and a friend would go to nightclubs together and fancied themselves a bit with women," Eden told the Daily Mail.
"But there was nothing malicious or nasty about him. He was very genuine and good natured."
Scotland Yard confirmed a teenage girl was arrested in connection with the slaying, and the 18-year-old man charged in connection with the slaying was released on bail with a court date scheduled next month.

FOUR YEAR OLD GIRL FOUND WANDERING ON HIGHWAY...
PORTLAND, Tenn. - A 4-year-old was found injured and alone by a driver on the Highway 109 bypass in Sumner County Monday night. Police said that Chelsea Wilson was in a truck with her father when she fell out.
Officials said the man did not realize the girl had hopped into the back of a trailer he was hauling.
"The father of the child had been doing some remodeling on the home. He had loaded the trailer with scraps, carpet and some other things, and apparently the child had hidden in the pile of scraps on the trailer," said Sumner County Sheriff Bob Barker.
The sheriff said they believed the incident was an unfortunate accident.
"The father was hauling the trailer down to Hendersonville to dump the debris and scraps – not knowing that the child was on that trailer or in that trailer. The child either jumped or fell off," said Barker.
Officials said the mother called police when she realized the girl was missing. Chelsea was transported to Sumner Regional Medical to be treated for her injuries. She was later discharged.
No charges have been filed.---http://www.newschanel5.com/

MAN ARRESTED FOR THE GRUESOME MURDER OF HIS MOTHER...CON'T
Family members found Ling's body inside her home about 1:15 p.m. Sunday and called police. Shortly after that, police received another call about the discovery of a head in a bag a few blocks away in one of the empty grassy lots that rings Dot and Tyler streets.
Ling's boyfriend said he had spoken to her on the telephone about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, and she indicated her son was with her. Witnesses at the site of the decapitated head's discovery said they saw the son walk to the back of a lot about 9:50 p.m. carrying a bag, then return without it a few minutes later.
At 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Henry's father saw his son with injuries to his head but was told he'd been beaten by some men. Police wouldn't say where Henry's injuries came from, his arrest photograph showing an obvious bruise on his forehead.
When Henry went to church Sunday morning, members saw the blood and the head injury and called police. He came to the Sheriff's Office with family members for an interview but didn't want to stay after being told he couldn't leave about 1:15 p.m., Schmitt said.
"Henry attempted to force his way out of the homicide office and it took several officers and detectives to subdue him," Schmitt said.
That escape attempt added three counts of battery on a police officer to Henry's docket, said Schmitt, who wouldn't elaborate on what was used to kill his mother or cut off her head. Whether Ling was dead before her head was removed will be up to the medical examiner to determine, he added.

MAN ARRESTED FOR THE GRUESOME MURDER OF HIS MOTHER...
Scratches on his face and blood under his fingernails - that's what members of Jumar D. Henry's church saw Sunday and reported to police.
Little did they know the decapitated body of his mother lie in her home in the 1500 block of West Sixth Street, her head tossed out in a black plastic bag three blocks away.
Police admit they don't know what led up to the gruesome Saturday night death of 43-year-old Jennifer Renee-Henry Ling as her 21-year-old son sits in the Duval County jail charged with murder.
"We don't know at this point. We just don't know," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Larry Schmitt.
As white-suited police evidence technicians combed the tidy one-story home just blocks away from the historic Edward Waters College campus, neighbors wonder what happened too.
One of many watching Monday's forensic investigation from their porches said any time she saw Henry, who lived in the 1000 block of North Liberty Street, he "acted weird." She and others within earshot of the home said they heard nothing Saturday night, but the aftermath horrified Rosetta Mondul, who has lived across the street since 1946.
"It was horrible," Mondul said. "It was terrible. I have never seen anything like this in my life."jacksonville.com

Ortiz wept openly at the hastily arranged news conference at an Italian restaurant in North Hollywood, saying the support of his family and Jameson's father "just means the world to me."
"My parents have gone through an addiction, and I'm seeing a mirror of that," Ortiz said. "I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be OK."
Ortiz is a former UFC light heavyweight champion whose celebrity has eclipsed his MMA accomplishments since he began a relationship in 2006 with Jameson, perhaps the world's most famous adult film actress. Jameson, who crossed into the mainstream after publishing a popular autobiography in 2004, gave birth to the couple's
twin sons, Jesse and Journey, in March 2009.
Matthews said the 35-year-old Ortiz found drugs in their home Monday morning, leading to the confrontation that ended with Ortiz's arrest. Matthews also claimed the 36-year-old Jameson has made 911 calls threatening suicide over the past year, but Ortiz stuck with his partner of four years in hopes of salvaging their relationship. ---http://www.dailybreeze.com/

COUPLE ARRESTED IN LAST WEEK'S BASEBALL BAT ATTACK ON TWO WOMEN..
A man and a woman are in custody in a baseball-bat attack that put two women in the hospital last week, police sources said.
Stacy Jurich, 24, and Natasha McShane, 23, were robbed of their purses and beaten at about 3:30 a.m. Friday under a railroad viaduct in the 1800 block of North Damen.
The baseball bat believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered, sources said.
Police used records from the women’s stolen cell phones and credit cards to track down their attackers, sources said.
The two suspects were taken into custody Monday night.
Jurich and McShane had been out celebrating a glowing job review that Jurich recently received and an internship that McShane received.
The women were walking from a Wicker Park bar to Jurich’s Bucktown home when they were attacked.
McShane is an exchange student from Ireland. She has been studying in a graduate program at the University of Illinois at Chicago since January.
McShane, who is from the village of Silverbridge in Northern Ireland, is in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Jurich is in serious condition at the hospital, authorities said today.
McShane’s family has flown to Chicago from Ireland and Australia.
“We hope to get her back the way she was,” her grandmother, Bernadette McShane, told the Irish Independent newspaper.
McShane has worked part-time for the last few months at Butch McGuire’s Irish Pub on Division Street, said owner Bobby McGuire. Fellow employees and patrons have been raising money for her, he said.
Jurich worked for a Morgan Stanley Smith Barney brokerage office in the west suburbs after graduating from Oak Forest High School and North Central College in Naperville.
Last week, her mother, Wendy Gay Van Etten, called her “a wonderful girl. I wish there were more Stacys in the world and less people like the son of gun who tried to take her out.”
According to the mother, Jurich was struck in the back of the head and was stumbling, dazed, when McShane was struck in the head and left to crumple to the ground, unconscious, in a pool of blood.
When Jurich tried to help McShane, she was struck in the head again, her mother said. Jurich knew she needed to escape and screamed for a taxi to stop, but the cabbie saw the blood on her clothes and kept going. ---http://www.suntimes.com/

MOM ARRESTED FOR FOUR YEAR OLD SON'S DEATH...
The Will County state's attorney's office said Tiana M. Wallace, 25, has been charged with endangering the life or health of a child, a Class 3 felony that carries a prison sentence of two to 10 years. Probation is also a sentencing option. Her bond has been set at $175,000.
At 11:38 p.m. April 7, someone noticed smoke coming from the door of Wallace's first-floor apartment at 316 N. Bluff St. in the Evergreen Terrace complex. Her son, Omariya Dishman, was inside.
"It appears the door was locked and the child was unable to unlock the door to get out," Police Chief Fred Hayes said.
As the first police officer arrived in the hallway, several people were trying to get the door open and one man kicked it in, but the thick black smoke kept anyone from going inside before firefighters arrived moments later, reports said.
Firefighters used a thermal imager to search the unit and went past a small kitchen and living room area turning (along the "L"-shaped layout) to face the master bedroom where the smoke was coming from. Omariya was found unresponsive lying on the floor in the bedroom next to the master bedroom.
"It's likely he was already deceased prior to the firefighters' arrival," Fire Chief Joe Formhals said.
The fire was contained to the single-unit and put out shortly before midnight.
Investigation
Following Omariya's death, firefighters and police detectives from the Arson Task Force began investigating the blaze.
"Our investigation has shown Tiana Wallace had left the boy unattended in the apartment for a half-hour to an hour before the fire began," Hayes said. "Although she was still in the building, she had gone up to a friend's apartment on the fourth-floor where she was socializing with at least five other people and was alerted to the fire by someone pounding on the door."
Formhals said the fire appears to have started accidentally.
"It wasn't set intentionally and we have ruled out an electrical cause. We believe it started from smoking materials on or under the bed, but without an eyewitness we can't rule out the child wasn't playing with matches or the mother had left a cigarette," he said.
The mattress that burned was mostly plastic and other materials that sent out a thick, toxic smoke very quickly, reports said.
"This is just a tragic reminder — don't leave your kids unattended," Formhals said.
"The mother's behavior clearly endangered the safety of her child," Hayes agreed.
Hayes said detectives interviewed residents of the complex and Wallace was aware of the investigation.
Police and the state's attorney's office notified the media of the arrest warrant early Tuesday afternoon and said they were seeking her whereabouts.
Around 5 p.m. Wallace reportedly called detectives and said she was tired of being on the news and would be coming down to turn herself in at the police station.
At 6:15 p.m. Wallace arrived at the front desk where her mother, sister and aunt were waiting for the wheelchair-bound suspect to arrive.
Wallace was reportedly advised of her rights, and refused to be interviewed without an attorney. She was booked into the county jail.---http://www.surburbanchicagonews.com/

WOMAN WHO MURDERED HER BABY BY CUTTING OFF ARMS IS BACK IN MENTAL HOSPITAL..
Dena Schlosser, the former Collin County woman who killed her baby by cutting off her arms but was found not guilty by reason of insanity, is back in a state mental hospital.
Schlosser, 41, was formally ordered back to Terrell State Hospital on Thursday by State District Judge Chris Oldner, said her attorney, David Haynes, but she has been under care there for several weeks.
"She was found in Richardson by firefighters there in March," Haynes said. "She was walking down the street at 2 in the morning."
Collin County prosecutors could not be reached for comment.
Haynes said Schlosser, who was released from state care by Oldner in November 2008, had been free on an outpatient maintenance basis that required her to keep up with her medications, among other things. He said that she had basically abided by the requirements until recently.
"She had been pursuing her outpatient treatment plans," Haynes said. "She had a job, and she was working to the satisfaction of her employer. But we can't hide the fact that she was walking down the street at 2 in the morning, and I can't say that I disagree with the judge's decision."
In November 2004, Schlosser was arrested after telling police she sliced off her 10-month-old daughter's arms with a kitchen knife. She told psychiatrists that God had told her to sever the child's limbs.
Schlosser, who has two older children but is forbidden by her 2007 divorce decree from having contact with them, was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis and depression after the home birth of her youngest child.
Her first capital murder trial ended in a hung jury. In April 2006, Oldner found her not guilty by reason of insanity. ---http://www.dallasnews.com/

MAN PULLS GUN TO BE WITH ANOTHER MAN'S GIRL
It started off as a discussion between two men about a woman, but according to authorities things allegedly got a little out of hand when one of the men said he wanted to be with the other's girlfriend and brandished a 9mm handgun to punctuate how serious he was.
According to an Alcoa police report, a 28-year-old Louisville man told officers that he was at Subway eating with an acquaintance — a 27-year-old Maryville man — and when the two got in the car to leave, “(the victim) stated that he became upset with (the suspect's) statements about wanting to be with the (victim's) girlfriend.”
But things didn't stop there, as the 27-year-old allegedly pulled out a 9mm Glock handgun — for which he currently has a valid gun permit — at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the report.
“(The victim) stated that (the suspect) pulled out a black 9mm Glock handgun and pointed (it) at him,” the report said. “(The victim) stated that (the suspect) told him that he was serious.”--http://www.dailytimes.com/

HOMELESS MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A 5 YEAR OLD BOY...
PEORIA — A homeless man faces up to 30 years in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting a 5-year-old boy.
Christopher Flores, 23, appeared in Peoria County Circuit Court on one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. He was ordered held on $200,000 bond by Judge Mark Gilles, who also scheduled a May 20 preliminary hearing.
Assistant State's Attorney Steve Pattelli said the boy's mother arrived home to find her son sitting on the porch with Flores. Sensing something was amiss, she talked to her son after Flores left and learned something inappropriate had occurred.
She called police, who arrested Flores a short time later. Both the boy and Flores told police that on April 19, the two had engaged in some fondling and oral sex, Pattelli said in open court.
Flores displayed a box cutter and told the child not to tell anyone about what happened, the prosecutor said.--http://www.pjstar.com/

Witnesses said a man wearing a black hoodie walked up to Williams and a group of pals before firing several shots into the crowd.
Cops Saturday were still trying to figure out what led to the shooting.

8 DAYS AFTER 6 YEAR OLD BOY'S BODY IS FOUND,HIS GRANDMOTHER IS ARRESTED FOR HIS MURDER...
After eight days, he has a name: Gerren Joseph Isgrigg.
Late Friday, Wylie investigators confirmed the identity of the 6-year-old whose body was found by a mowing crew April 15 near a Collin County pond.
Darlene Phillips Gerren's maternal grandmother and primary caregiver, 63-year-old Darlene Phillips, was arrested after 10 p.m. on a murder charge. Her bail was set at $500,000.
"We're going straight on that she murdered Gerren by her actions," Wylie Detective Venece Perepiczka said. "This was a very unfortunate circumstance. Gerren was not taken care of well."
Police said the boy's parents are separated. The father lives in California and the mother in Oklahoma. Their names were not released.
Police said a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's hotline led to the identification of Gerren, whose story has left its mark on the hearts of thousands around the world.
Investigators said they were looking into what happened in the final days before Gerren's death. They didn't disclose where the grandmother lives.
Autopsy results are pending, but police have said there were no obvious injuries.
Wylie police had worked around the clock with the national center and the Collin County Child Abuse Task Force since last week, checking hundreds of tips to learn the boy’s identity.

WOMAN SENTENCED FOR RAZOR BLADE ATTACK...
Waukegan woman with a razor blade, her attorney said at sentencing Friday.
Katina Gunn, 29, admitted that she attacked a woman on Jan. 23 with a razor blade.
Associate Judge George Bridges sentenced Gunn to 180 days in jail and also ordered her to perform 150 hours of community service. She also received two years of probation.
Bridges could have sentenced her to two to five years in prison for aggravated battery.
"This is a very serious offense. The injuries you inflicted in this case are serious," Bridges told Gunn.
The victim was slashed in the face and head and received 20 stitches and 15 staples after the attack, according to Assistant State's Attorney Brett Henne. She will need plastic surgery and is incapable of growing hair in some of the places her scalp was cut, he said.
The victim allegedly asked Gunn to claim her daughter on Gunn's tax return because Gunn earned more than the victim did, Henne said. However, she heard that Gunn was not going to split the money with her.
When Gunn heard that the victim had asked someone else to do claim her child as a dependent, Gunn attacked the woman with a razor blade, Henne said.
"There are scars that you placed on this victim for no valid reason. This income tax scheme just shows you are on a slippery slope," Bridges said.
Henne had asked that Gunn receive a sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
"She knows better than to do what she's done ... the victim is going to be scarred for life -- physically and emotionally," Henne argued.
Public Defender Tim McArthur contended that Gunn's behavior was out of character. He pointed out that the single mother to a 9-year-old daughter had no criminal history.
"This was an isolated incident fueled by alcohol," McArthur said.
He asked the court to impose a sentence of probation with substance abuse and anger management counseling.
Gunn made a tearful statement to the court in which she apologized to the victim, her daughter and her grandmother.
"I'm really sorry about this incident. I cry every day and night. I made a terrible choice, and it will never happen again," Gunn said.--http://www.surburbanchicagonews.com/

MAN CHARGED WITH KILLING FAMILY MEMBER
A murder charge was filed Friday against a man accused of fatally stabbing a family member this week in Torrance.
Edward Martinez, 64, was expected to be arraigned Friday in Torrance Superior Court, but the hearing was postponed until May 10, Deputy District Attorney John Lonergan said.
Martinez was arrested Tuesday following the stabbing death of Timothy William Hillis, 62, whom Lonergan said was Martinez's former brother-in-law.
Martinez was staying at the Brighton Hotel at 1639 1/2 Cabrillo Ave. while Hillis was living across the street at the Torrance Motel.
The two apparently got into a fight over a young, male family member, Lonergan said. He declined to go into details of the dispute.
According to police, the quarrel also was over money.
The stabbing occurred in the corridor outside Hillis' room. Martinez, who fled, was identified by witnesses and surveillance
The complaint against Martinez notes that a suspected child abuse report may have been generated in connection to the case.
It also details eight previous convictions, dating back to 1964, for robberies, attempted robberies and petty theft. ---http://www.dailybreeze.com/

MAN CONFESSES TO KILLING GIRLFRIEND AND DUMPING HER BODY NEAR CEMETERY....
A woman found dead near a Queens cemetery last week has been identified, and authorities say her live-in boyfriend admitted killing her.
Muhammad Iqbal, 45, was busted Thursday on a minor arrest warrant when he confessed to strangling Khadija Mahel during an argument in their Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, apartment on April 13, officials said.
Iqbal told police he wrapped Mahel's body in a carpet and hid her under the bed after the slaying to keep their two sons, 6 and 7, from finding out.
The next day, he said, he took the boys to school like nothing happened. That night, he loaded the body into his car, drove to Cambria Heights and dumped her body "like a piece of trash," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Police said the Moroccan immigrant's body was found about 1 a.m. on April 15 near Montefiore Cemetery. Mahel, 44, was identified by fingerprints, officials said.
Iqbal was charged with second-degree murder and was awaiting arraignment Friday night.

FLORIDA FIREMAN CHARGED WITH RAPE....
A former Jacksonville firefighter has been charged with a rape that happened in 2006 while he was employed by the fire department.
Daniel W. Foote, 54, who was already on house arrest in another case, was arrested Wednesday and is in the Duval County jail on $300,000 bail, according to jail records.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Tom Francis said the latest charges against the former firefighter are serious, and they will offer any the help the Sheriff's Office needs in the investigation.
"These revelations come as a shocking surprise and impugn his character to a degree no one could have possibly foreseen," Francis said. "The department is not aware of all the intricate details affiliated with this case, but whatever level of cooperation is needed from us is assured."
According to the arrest report, the victim was in her residence vacuuming in August 2006 when she turned around and saw a strange man standing in front of her. The man threw her against the couch, forced her into the bedroom and raped her.
Police, at the time, were unable to identify a suspect. But when Foote was convicted of a separate crime last year, police obtained his DNA. A database analysis came back this year linking Foote's DNA with the DNA taken from the rape kit in 2006, the arrest report said.

CHILDREN WERE REMOVED FROM A HOME BY DCS AFTER COPS FOUND FECES ON WALL...
Two young boys were removed from their home by Department of Children’s Services workers Wednesday after officers reported finding them living in a room with feces on the wall and ripped-apart dirty diapers on the floor, among numerous other things.
According to an Alcoa police report, officers responded to the Alcoa home on Wednesday at about 7 p.m. for a welfare check on the children — boys aged 2 and 1.
“Dispatch advised the house was very messy,” the report said.
“Very messy” was an understatement according to the officer’s description of the residence, starting with his first step into the house.
“As you stepped inside, my feet stuck to the carpet on an unknown substance,” the officer wrote.
The less-than flattering description of the house continued as the officer got farther inside: “The living room floor was covered in filth with clothes and food all over ... there were open rat stick pads around the door to one of the bedrooms. On the end table I observed food that was covered with ants and covered in mold.”
The children’s bedroom was covered in dirty clothes, ripped-apart used diapers and rotten food, the officer continued, also noting the “human feces wiped on the wall.”
When the officer finally made contact with the children, they were allegedly in a similar condition.
“The (2-year-old) child was standing on a window sill unsupervised,” the officer.--http://www.thedailytimes.com/

ALCOHOL MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WOMAN'S HOT TUB DROWNING DEATH
Authorities were called to a home in the 500 block of Grant Street at about 5 a.m. today, where the woman was found in the hot tub on the back porch patio, said Hendricks County Coroner Joe Neuman.
Neuman said the woman lived in the home with her boyfriend, who last saw her in the hot tub at midnight.
He said there was no evidence of foul play and the woman had no apparent injuries to her body.
Brownsburg police Capt. Jeff Gray identified the victim as Dawn Huddleston, 37. The boyfriend found her body face-down in the hot tub after he was awakened by his barking dog.
Because alcohol containers were on the patio, Neuman said "We suspect alcohol may have had something to do with it."
He said an autopsy would likely be conducted later today.---http://www.indystar.com/

BLACK MAN CHARGED IN STABBING DEATH OF WHITE SUPREMACIST LAWYER....
PEARL, Miss. - A white supremacist lawyer with a knack for publicity was found stabbed to death in a burning house on Thursday and Mississippi authorities later said a neighbor had been charged with murder.
Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said Richard Barrett's body was found just after 8 a.m. after residents reported smoke coming from his house in a rural area outside a Jackson, Miss., suburb.
Pennington told The Associated Press that Vincent McGee, 22, has been charged with murder in the case. Additional charges could be forthcoming, Pennington said, including arson.
The sheriff said McGee had not yet hired a lawyer and the suspect's mother had no comment when she went to the jail where her son was

TWO WOMEN BEATEN WITH BASEBALL BAT AND ROBBED....
Two women were beaten with a baseball bat and robbed while walking home early Friday morning in the Bucktown neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
A man approached the women -- ages 23 and 24 -- while they were walking in the 1800 block of North Damen Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Friday, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. He struck both of them in the head with a bat before taking their purses.
The 23-year-old immediately fell unconscious while the 24-year-old was able to give a statement to police before also falling unconscious, Perez said.
The women were walking under the viaduct at 1801 N. Damen Ave. when the 24-year-old felt intense pain the back of her head and then was struck again, police said. She saw her friend drop to the ground and the man picked up both their purses before fleeing south on Damen.
The man got away with a large leather bag with a Blackberry cell phone, Sony camera and various other personal items including credit cards, which belonged to the 24-year-old, police said. The 23-year-old had a Coach purse.
The 24-year-old lives in the area, but it is unlikely the women were targeted, according to police, who called it a “crime of opportunity.”
Fire crews were called to the scene for a “wash out,” police said.
The 23-year-old remains in critical condition and the 24-year-old is in “serious but stable” condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Perez said.
The suspect is described as black male 27 to 34, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 with a medium complexion, wearing a tan or light-colored hooded sweatshirt.

MAN WITH RIFLE SHOT BY POLICE...
Las Vegas police are investigating an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning that left a suspect wielding an assault rifle in the hospital.
Spokesman Jacinto Rivera said officers stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic stop in front of a residence in the 2000 block of McLeod Drive, near Karen Avenue, at about 2:30 a.m.
Immediately after the vehicle was released from the traffic stop, a garage door to a nearby residence opened and a man with an assault rifle confronted the officers, Rivera said.
The man refused to drop his weapon, and an officer shot the suspect, Rivera said. No one else was injured in the shooting.
Rivera said the traffic stop was unrelated to the officer-involved shooting, and it's unclear why the suspect confronted police with a weapon.
"Only he (the suspect) knows that," he said.
According to police event logs and county assessor records, the shooting took place at a home owned by Juan and Blanca Solis. Booking records at Clark County Detention Center indicate that Juan Solis-Diaz, 32, was arrested Thursday for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, as well as resisting a police officer with a weapon.
Police have not yet identified the suspect.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries not expected to be life threatening, Rivera said.
A next-door neighbor who asked to remain anonymous, said she was watching television in her bedroom when she heard gunshots.
"I heard, 'ping, ping, ping,' and then five or six more shots," said the neighbor, a woman in her 70s who has lived at the home for more than 40 years.
"I said, 'Oh my God, I don't know if I should call police,' but before I knew it all the police were there already," she said.
She only knew her neighbor by his first name, Juan, she said, who had lived next door for several years.
"He was always nice to me," she said. "We never had much of a conversation together, but he was always very nice and polite."
The officer who fired the shots was placed on paid administrative leave, as is required by department policy. The officer's name will be released within 48 hours.--http://www.lvrj.com/

SUSPECT CHARGED IN HOLLYWOOD RESTAURANT MURDERS..
(CNN) -- A man has been charged in a shooting that left four dead at a North Hollywood, California, restaurant on a Saturday night earlier this month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.
Nerses Arthur Galstyan, 26, was charged with four counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple killings.
He was arrested Tuesday near Seattle, Washington, after being at large since the April 3 shooting. Extradition proceedings are pending, the district attorney's office said Thursday.
The district attorney's office said that it won't decide whether to seek the death penalty until the case moves closer to trial.
Galstyan was also charged with one count of mayhem involving a victim who survived the attack and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He is accused of using a handgun to carry out the slayings, the district attorney's office said.
The shooting occurred on April 3 at the Hot Spot Mediterranean Restaurant. It is believed to have followed a dispute inside the restaurant, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said earlier this month.

Two people were injured in the attack, police said.

INDIANA MAN FOUND GUILTY IN THE BRUTAL MURDER OF HIS WIFE...
A jury deliberated just two hours today before returning guilty verdicts against Michael Yang in the brutal beating and strangulation of his wife in the estranged couple's Lawrence home. He had maintained his innocence, but DNA testing found traces of Amenda Yang's genetic material in spots on his work uniform. Jurors also heard testimony about a letter found by the woman's body, addressed to her divorce attorney and casting blame on another man. Experts testified that in her state, she couldn't have penned such a letter; the handwriting also was suspect.
Another part of Michael Yang's plot, prosecutors said, was leaving behind a newly purchased wallet with another man's lost photo identification, which Yang may have found on the ground months earlier. He also staged a robbery by opening drawers, they said, but forgot to take anything of value.
"We're not saying he's perfect," Deputy Prosecutor Stephanie Wade said during closing arguments. "We're saying he's cold." Defense attorney Charles Hayes challenged the DNA evidence and cited coworkers' accounts and time card records to argue that Yang, who worked near the house, couldn't have slipped away long enough to kill his wife and clean up the mess. Yang, 53, faces 45 to 66 years at sentencing May 12 on convictions for murder and invasion of privacy.
He reacted to the verdicts with stoicism, even telling jurors as they filed out: "God bless all of you." This wasn't his first conviction -- in 1997, he was convicted of attempted rape for attacking a woman inside the home of an acquaintance.
At the time of the killing last May, Amenda Yang, 43, had a protective order and had filed for divorce a month earlier. Her four youngest children discovered her body in a bloody scene when they returned home from school.
Amenda Yang's brother, Tayu Lee, and his wife, Mayuree Billie Lee, were in the courtroom today. "We are profoundly grateful that the state of Indiana and its citizens were able to deliver justice for my sister Amenda," Tayu Lee, who lives near St. Paul, Minn., told me outside the courtroom. "She can now rest in peace." Of his former brother-in-law, Lee said: "They were married 23 years. I saw evilness in him in every sense."
Lee asked me to convey his gratitude for the prosecutor's office -- including Wade, Deputy Prosecutor Marci McCoy and victim advocate Linda Crocheron -- as well as all of the Lawrence police detectives and others who helped build the case.--http://www.indystar.com/

73 YEAR OLD MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDER....
A 73-year-old man was behind bars today on suspicion of killing a Hollywood woman, whose slaying was believed to be connected to the 2008 double-homicide of her husband and their daughter.
Alberd Tersargyan was booked on suspicion of killing Karine Hakobyan, 38, whose body was found slumped in the driver's seat of her Honda CRV about 8:20 p.m. March 26, according to Capt. Kevin McClure of the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery/Homicide Division.
McClure said Tersargyan was also being looked at as a possible suspect in the December 2008 shooting deaths of Khachik Safaryan, a 43-year-old Armenian man, and his 8-year-old daughter Lusine. Their bodies were found in their home in the 1200 block of Tamarind Avenue by the couple's then-12-year- old daughter when she came home from school.
Last month, that same daughter also discovered the slain body of her mother, who was found in her car in the 5800 block of Lexington Avenue. The woman had been shot in the head, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The couple's older daughter was taken into protective custody.
Police said the victims had not been linked to any criminal activity in the United States or Armenia. Law enforcement sources told City News Service earlier this month that the killings appeared to be targeted "hits" that may have stemmed from a disagreement Safaryan had with someone over money or romance. ---http://www.dailybreeze.com/

TEACHER CHARGED WITH MOLESTING FIVE LITTLE GIRLS...
A twisted fourth-grade teacher brazenly molested five little girls at his desk while fellow students sat feet away inside his Queens classroom, sources said.
"Don't tell anybody," accused serial pervert Simon Watts reportedly told one of his victims after pinching her rear end and groping her thigh inside Public School 15.
The hulking Watts, 38, forced three other girls to grab his genitals in the classroom, a criminal complaint says. It adds that he fondled a fifth victim and unzipped his pants as she stood there.
The repeated assaults came with creepy chatter, with Watts telling one scared child, "I love you," and another, "I can see your butt," authorities said.
The abuse began after he arrived at the Springfield Gardens school in 2007 and continued until March 9, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Two of the girls, all ages 8 to 10, were abused repeatedly as Watts was moved with them from the third grade to the fourth grade last September, a law enforcement source said.
Police busted him after the most recent victim told her mother Watts steered her hand to his crotch at a classroom desk, the source said.
Watts, 5-feet-10 and 230 pounds, was being held on $200,000 bail. He faces up to seven years if convicted.
"Children should be allowed to be children," Brown said. "Such alleged conduct cannot go unpunished."
Watts' wife, answering the door at their St. Albans home, declined comment on the stunning charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
"I don't want to speak about it," she said. "It's upsetting."
A lawyer for Watts, who began working as a city substitute in 2000, did not return a call.
Parents at the elementary school were outraged that school officials kept them in the dark until after Watts' arraignment.
Students came home Wednesday with a written notice about the arrest.
"I should have known about this before," said Winston Walcott while picking up his 10-year-old daughter Toniza. "These are babies we're talking about."
Watts was the second Queens teacher arrested this week.

MAN SHOOTS 20 MONTH OLD GIRL....
The suspect apparently was targeting the girl’s father but a bullet struck Cynia Cole in the head as she sat with her two young sisters in the back of a car Wednesday night in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
Cynia, who loved cruising around on her Big Wheel, died just before noon at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, a hospital spokesman said. Cynia — called “Coco” by her family — was just 20 months old.
Meeks, a state senator, said he helped the suspect turn himself in at the Calumet Area detective headquarters.
The suspect’s mother called Meeks and asked him to help because the alleged killer was scared for his safety, Meeks said.
“This family did the right thing,” he said.
The suspect was “melancholy” when he turned himself in, Meeks said.
Meeks described the killing of the girl as being “heinous.”
Police believe the girl’s father, Jerome Hendricks, was the intended target.
The shooter — a reputed Black P Stone member — fired on the family’s car as it sat parked in the 640 block of East 92nd Place, a source said.
Hendricks — described by sources as a rival Gangster Disciples member — said the gunman had accused one of Hendricks’ pals of trying to kill him.
Hendricks identified his accused friend as Michael Johnson, but court records identify the man as Michael J. Wilson, 24. Wilson, who allegedly shot the suspect in the pelvis on March 7 in the 700 block of East 92nd, is charged with attempted murder.
Hendricks said the family was returning home from a visit to the girl’s aunt’s home and was picking up cigarettes from a man who sells them from his home when the gunman opened fire.
“He came in the middle of the street, shot eight times,” the father said.--http://www.suntimes.com/

MURDER SUSPECT WITHDREW MONEY FROM ESTRANGED GIRLFRIEND'S BANK ACCOUNT...
MARION, Ind. — A suspect in a triple slaying has been charged with withdrawing money from his estranged girlfriend’s bank account three days before she and two other people were found stabbed to death in a Kokomo home.
Jeremy Blanchard, 30, of Gas City, was served with a warrant charging him with theft and forgery Tuesday at the Grant County Jail, Sheriff Darrell Himelick said.
Blanchard has not been charged in the three deaths, but police say he is a suspect in the slayings of 62-year-old David McPike, 57-year-old Rebecca Berg and her 28-year-old daughter, Jessica Berg. All three were stabbed multiple times.
Blanchard was extradited to Indiana last week after he was arrested in southeastern Kentucky on warrants for a probation violation and intimidation charges involving Jessica Berg, his ex-girlfriend.
Blanchard withdrew more than $1,000 from Berg’s savings and checking accounts on April 6, three days before she was found slain, Marion Police Sgt. Robin Young said. Although the couple had a joint account together at one time, Blanchard’s name wasn’t on Berg’s account, he said.---http://www.indystar.com/

CAMBRIDGE PEEPING TOM TAKEN FOR PSYCH EVALUATION
Cambridge — A Cambridge man allegedly peeped into an Inman Square apartment and asked about “two young girls wearing towels,” citing an Amber Alert for missing girls on April 12. Police responded, could not find any such alert and had the man taken to the hospital, according to a police report.
At about 7:47 p.m., three women from an Inman Street street-level apartment complained about a man peeping into the window as they were making dinner. When one of them approached the suspect and asked him what he was doing, he allegedly commented on them being in bathrobes in the bedroom. The bedroom could be looked into from the street, police noted.
The women told police that they were in bathrobes the night before in a bedroom when they thought they saw someone at the window. As the suspect referred to this, they assumed it had to be him.
When police responded, they were told that the suspect fled toward Harvard Street.
A man matching the description was soon stopped on Harvard Street and positively identified as the Peeping Tom. He was allegedly carrying a packet of men’s underwear and was identified as a 34-year-old Cambridge resident.
When questioned, he admitted to looking in the window and seeing two women in bathrobes. He said he heard about an Amber Alert out for two missing women and he thought it was his duty to see if they were the ones. When he looked into the kitchen later and they spotted him, he said he asked them about the Amber Alert. One of them said she did not know anything about it.
Police checked and could not find any such alerts, either.
The victims said they saw the suspect looking into the kitchen and motioned him to come to the door and speak to them directly, but he did not budge from the window on Inman Street. When asked what he wanted, he reportedly said, “Well, I saw two young girls in the room over there wearing towels. Are they still in here?” A resident who had opened the door said “No,” closed the door and called the police, saying that none of them have bathed or were in bathrobes or bathing towels in the past 45 minutes.
Police called an ambulance to take the suspect to Cambridge Hospital and recommended a psych evaluation, according to the report.--http://www.wickedlocal.com/

MAN SUES FUNERAL HOME FOR HIS DECEASED MOM'S STOLEN JEWELRY AND CELL PHONE....(I found this to be very disturbing indeed, robbing a deceased person)
A South Side funeral home was sued today by a man who claims his mother's diamond wedding ring, cell phone and other jewelry were not returned after the funeral home processed his mother's body.
The Cook County Circuit Court lawsuit alleges Beatrice Weathers died in her home early Feb. 3, 2009, wearing her diamond wedding ring and other jewelry, and in possession of her cell phone.
Her body was removed by funeral home worker Bernard Slaughter Jr. of Slaughter and Son Funeral Directors at 2024 E. 75th St., and while the funeral home later returned some of the woman's personal effects, the ring, other jewelry and cell phone were never returned, the complaint alleges.
Weathers' son, Thomas, is the plaintiff. He claims he did not witness his mother's body being prepared before she was taken from the home, and Weathers' body was completely covered when it was taken to the funeral home.
The lawsuit alleges that about 45 phone calls were made from Weathers' cell phone after her death until the plaintiff had that phone turned off and had the number transferred.
Thomas Weathers said he has made multiple demands that all his mother's property be returned, but only a different cell phone, broken, was mailed to the plaintiff. The ring and jewelry are still missing, the complaint alleges.
The complaint claims that the ring had irreplaceable sentimental and substantial monetary value. The plaintiff is demanding damages in excess of $50,000.
Just after 7 p.m. today, Benita Slaughter, also named in the lawsuit, answered a business telephone listed under Slaughter and Son, and said she was not aware of the complaint filed. She said the office was closed and would not comment this evening.
Thomas Weathers, who lives in Bolingbrook, could not be reached today.---http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/

GANG MEMBER PLEADS GUILTY IN PLEA BARGAIN TO MURDERING WOMAN IN FRONT OF HER CHILDREN..
Shortly before testimony was to begin in his trial, a reputed gang member pleaded guilty to the 2006 murder of a mother who was struck by a stray bullet in the Pilsen neighborhood in front of two of her children.
Alberto Colin, 26, was a reputed Satan Disciples member when he jumped out of a van and fired at a rival Bishops gang member in the 1800 block of South Wood Street.
The bullet instead struck Helen Coronado, 29, a mother of five, in the head as she was walking home from the grocery store with two of her children.
Prosecutors said Colin acted in retaliation because earlier that day several members of the Bishop gang humiliated him by slapping him in the face in front of his mother.
After Colin pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, Judge Timothy Joyce sentenced him to 53 years in prison - which must be served in its entirety.
In exchange, prosecutors dropped more than a dozen other felony charges against him as well as two 2009 charges for possessing a homemade knife in jail while awaiting trial.
The plea deal came just minutes before a jury was scheduled to hear opening statements in the case. A jury had already been selected.
Coronado's family said they were pleased with the outcome.
"Fifty three years is a long time to serve in the penitentiary," said the victim's brother, Victor Coronado. "She (Helen Coronado) was the baby of the family, a happy-go lucky girl who was doing what she wanted to do. For her to be struck down by this senseless act of violence, it's unreal."
Colin's brother, David, 28, and co-defendant Fernando Ojeda, 22, are still awaiting trial. The brother drove Colin to and from the shooting, while Ojeda provided the weapon used in the shooting, prosecutors allege.--http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/

YOUNG BOY FOUND DEAD IN TEXAS WOODS
Investigators are following up on every lead but have not yet been able to identify a little boy, dubbed Wylie's Angel, whose dead body was abandoned near a Collin County pond last week.
Police have released a sketch of the boy.
That's also when Malorie Martinez started a Facebook page called "Wylie's Angel to get the boy's image distributed as widely as possible.
"I wanted to get his face to go national so that maybe an aunt or a close family member might see him," said Martinez, 20, of Dallas, who works with special-needs children and said the case deeply affected her. "I want somebody who knows him and loves him to have that closure."
Martinez said the rapidly growing online community, which has thousands of members, is planning a candlelight vigil from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at East Fork Park to honor the boy.
Wylie police say the boy, found just after 9 a.m. Thursday on federal land south of Lavon Lake, was about 6 years old. He was about 3-foot-3 and weighed 28 pounds. He appears to have had "significant medical needs" and showed signs of having a feeding tube, police say. Autopsy results have not been released. --http://www.dallasnews.com/

POLICE WON'T RELEASE PHOTOS TAKEN BY CALIFORNIA SERIAL KILLER...
The NYPD Cold Case Squad is sitting on hundreds of old pictures of unidentified young women snapped by a notorious California serial killer - and some could be his victims.
The photos, taken in the late 1970s by sicko Rodney Alcala, were sent to the NYPD by the Huntington Beach Police Department in case they could help solve old missing persons cases.
"They should be released. There are people who will identify their missing loved ones," said retired Huntington Beach detective Steve Mack, who worked the Alcala case until 2008.
Alcala, 66, is on Death Row in California after he was convicted of strangling four women and a 12-year-old girl there. He lived in New York City off and on during the 1970s.
Some estimate he may have killed more than 100 women and girls before his 1979 arrest - luring them by asking them to pose for his camera.
He is a suspect in two New York City murders, including the slaying of 23-year-old TWA stewardess Cornelia Michel Crilley, who was raped and strangled in her E. 83rd St. apartment in June 1971. DNA tests on saliva found at the scene matched Alcala.
Alcala, a photographer who studied film under Roman Polanski and has a genius-level IQ of 160, had 1,000 pictures of unidentified women and girls in a storage locker when arrested. Many are suggestive.
Cops wondered how many of the women were still alive.
The photos were kept quiet until he was sentenced to death last month. "We needed an unbiased jury," Mack said.

MAN ACCUSED OF RAPING A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL STRIKES PLEA AGREEMENT....
LACON — A 20-year-old Henry man who had been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl last year was released from the Marshall County Jail on Monday under the terms of a tentative plea agreement.
Ryan P. Curran was arrested in November on a charge of criminal sexual assault, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Henry police said he lured the girl to a residence through text-messaging and then forced her to have sex.
Under a tentative agreement negotiated by State's Attorney Paul Bauer and defense attorney Hugh Toner, Curran pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He will undergo a sex offender evaluation that could determine the final outcome of the case.
If the results of that evaluation are acceptable, Curran will be sentenced to probation and also time served in the county jail, where he has been since late November, Toner said. He was released on a personal recognizance bond agreed to by Bauer, meaning he did not have to post any money.
Curran will be living in East Peoria with his mother on home confinement during the approximately six-week period before evaluation results are received, Bauer said. A review date for possible final sentencing was set for July 7.--http://www.pjstar.com/

MAN CONFESSES TO KILLING FAMILY MEMBERS
April 16, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A Wisconsin man suspected in the shooting deaths of his pregnant wife, infant son and two nieces in their Chicago home told police he committed the crimes, prosecutors said Friday.
James Larry, 32, of Madison, Wis., gave a videotaped confession and led police to where he dropped the handgun after Wednesday morning's shootings, prosecutors told a judge during a brief hearing in which Larry was ordered held without bond.
Larry kept his head down during the hearing, saying only "Yes, ma'am," when Judge the judge asked him questions.
The judge also ordered Larry transferred to the county jail's medical unit for mental health treatment. Larry's attorney, Assistant Public Defender Julie Koehler, said he needed treatment and had been under a doctor's care for mental health problems for eight years. (ABC-WLS)
Koehler described Larry as "very, very emotional and upset" and said he kept his head down during the hearing because he was crying.
Larry was arrested after the Wednesday morning shootings on Chicago's southwest side and charged Thursday night with four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child. Along with his wife, his 16-year-old niece was pregnant.

MAN RAN FOR MORE THAN A BLOCK AFTER BEING STABBED.....
A man stabbed on a Brooklyn street Saturday ran more than a block with the blade in his back before he collapsed and bled to death, cops and witnesses said.
Maurice Burrus, 23, was walking with his girlfriend on Miller Ave. in East New York when a handful of young men ambushed him, witnesses said.
During the struggle around 1 p.m., his girlfriend ran to her apartment, grabbed a 16-inch steak knife and tried to hand it to Burrus to fend off his attackers, witnesses said.
But one of the assailants snatched the blade from her grip and jabbed it in Burrus' back, witnesses said.
The injured father of two ran to Van Sticken Ave. with the blade still in his back, keeled over on the sidewalk and died, witnesses said.
"It's unbelievable," said his mother, Shawna Burrus, 40. "They killed my son. Oh my God, no!"
Burrus had two young daughters, ages 4 and 6, and worked as a messenger in Manhattan, the family said.
"My big brother didn't deserve to die like this," said Albert Burrus, 18. "Nobody deserves to die like this."
Witnesses said the slaying may have been over a girl.
No arrests had been made Saturday night.

MAN USES SNAKE AS A WEAPON....
April 15, 2010 (ROCK HILL, S.C.) -- Police in South Carolina say an argument between two motel guests ended when one of the men was hit in the head with a snake.
Rock Hill police say the victim told officers that he argued Tuesday night with 29-year-old Tony Smith over loud music coming from Smith's room.

Smith surrendered the snake to family members before police handcuffed him and took him to jail.

MAN WHO BLUDGEONED HIS WIFE TO DEATH MAY FACE UP TO 60 YEARS IN PRISON....
PEKIN — Brandy Gerard squealed with delight Friday when she saw her sister's alleged killer dressed in blue prison garb and wearing shackles on his hands and feet.
"I was just excited," said Gerard. "It's nice to see him all cuffed up and not able to go anywhere."
The man, who legally still is her brother-in-law, is Daniel K. Cleary, 35, of Normal. The body of her sister MeLisa D. Cleary, 30, a mother of three, was found June 9, 2008, just outside Lincoln under a bridge, next to railroad tracks.
She was reported missing by family two days earlier. She died from crushing impact injuries to her head and neck.
On Friday, Daniel Cleary stood quiet during most of the five-minute hearing as Tazewell County Associate Circuit Judge Jerelyn Maher-Schulz read him the charges, five counts of first-degree murder for the bludgeoning death of his wife.
Cleary spoke several times during the hearing, telling Maher-Schulz he didn't need a public defender assigned to his case, as he could afford his own. One was appointed anyway. Cleary then asked repeatedly if he could be released from custody, which the judge denied.
Other times he spoke were inaudible to the audience of reporters and friends and family members of MeLisa Cleary watching him as he appeared on a closed circuit television in the corner of a small lobby area inside the Tazewell County Justice Center.
The judge set Cleary's bond at $3 million, based not only on the murder charges but a prior arson conviction from Washington state. A preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. May 6. If convicted, he faces between 20 and 60 years in prison.
Tazewell County authorities arrested Cleary without incident on Wednesday at his Normal apartment. The couple's three children remain in the care of a foster family in Macomb.
"It's a relief. God's in control," said MeLisa Cleary's mother, Jean Cohoon. "We knew it was him."
After the hearing Friday, Gerard said the nearly two year wait for justice took a toll on the family's patience.
"Its been real hard. We've been very angry," she said. "Tak(ing) it day by day is the only way to do it, pray everyday that today is going to be the day."---http://www.pjstar.com/

NYPD COMMANDER ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARRASSMENT ....
An NYPD commander who apparently digs the "Twilight" saga is accused of sexually harassing a detective with unwanted massages and texts, the Daily News has learned.
Detective Dawn DelValle-Sanchez said Deputy Chief Michael Gabriel, the head of Bronx detectives, made the squad room a hostile workplace with obsessive behavior.
"I ask for ur forgiveness and another chance (Think Bella forgiving Jacob)," Gabriel wrote in a text DelValle-Sanchez showed to the Daily News.
The comment seems to refer to the lusty Bella and her suitor Jacob, who transforms himself into a werewolf in the vampire series popular with teenagers.
In another text message from an NYPD-issued BlackBerry, the chief asked for forgiveness: "I will accept any penalty; hard labor, probation, a time out. ... Do werewolves kill humans just like vampires?"
Gabriel, 51, also invited DelValle-Sanchez, 34, to throw an object at him or call him names as a sort of penance for his come-ons, she said.
"I believe there's something wrong with him," said DelValle-Sanchez, who is married and the mother of two children ages 10 and 7. "I just want to come to work and be left alone."
DelValle-Sanchez, 34, said she has hired a lawyer because she fears retaliation from Gabriel, who supervises all detectives in the Bronx.
The lawyer plans to file a notice of claim to sue the city next week.

THE AFTER MATH OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE (by Dennis Thompson Jr.)
People who were sexually abused as children may have issues with sexual dysfunction and self-destructive behavior when they get older.
Sexual abuse leaves many scars, creating feelings of guilt, anger, and fear that haunt survivors throughout their lives. Adults who have undergone sexual abuse as children commonly experience depression and insomnia. High levels of anxiety in these adults can result in self-destructive behaviors, such as alcoholism or drug abuse, anxiety attacks, and situation-specific anxiety disorders.
The damage extends to the sexual abuse survivor's sense of their own sexuality. Many survivors also have trouble pursuing adult relationships and enjoying sex as an adult. The abuse can color a person's sexuality, preventing the survivor from pursuing a healthy sex life with a loving partner.
Sexual Abuse and Sexual Behaviors
In general, childhood sexual abuse survivors tend to either pursue sex recklessly as adults or to forgo sex completely, says Stephen L. Braveman, MA, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Monterey, Calif., and the western regional representative of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. "They typically wind up with splitting behavior, where things become very black and white," he says. "Either they are very sexually active, or they shut down sexually." www.everydayhealth.com

Sweet Dreams 4
I remember back in June of 94,I was married to my 2nd abusive husband and pregnant with my now 14 year old son.Nicole Brown Simpson had been murdered. This sent a real chill down my spine.I can remember thinking, now her kids are left without a mother..But,I still remained in my abusive marriage for a little while longer. However,I did separate from him before my son was born.Of course this was not our first seperation.....ya,know the victim most always goes back to her abuser..You know the drill...'I'M Sorry' it won't happen again...Anyway on to Clue #3 CONTROLLING BEHAVIOR...The abuser wants to know your every move...if you arrive home late from an appointment or work, the abuser will become angry and accuse you of seeing someone else. The abuser at this point is very irrational.Trying to defend your actions or trying to reason with the abuser at this point can be very exhausting, to say the least. The abuser will want to control everything from what you wear,to where you go, to whom you talk too.Are you starting to wake up?Well,THERE'S EVEN MORE...AND IT GETS MORE SERIOUS AS WE GO ALONG...
SWEET DREAMS-THREE'S A CROWD
I can remember having the very misguided feeling of being special and ooh so loved, because my husband was so insanely jealous.I was foolish and naive enough to think that this was cute.I was 17,the first time I got married...of course,it was against my adopted parents better judgement. But,you already know...that of course, I did not listen to them.So many women feel unrealistically flattered by the potential abusers jealousy.WAKE UP! You are headed in a DANGER ZONE! I must also mention that,I have suffered from depression my whole life..So,of course this added to my insecurities and acceptance of allowing myself to be a victim time and time again for years..I must say when my 21 yr. old daughter started dating her soon to be abuser..I could do something that,I could not do each time I met one of my future abusers..It was if I had some kind of a built in radar..something that I did not have concerning my abusive relationships. He may as well have been wearing a label because I could see right through him.He absolutely, terrified me.I tried over and over again to warn my daughter to no avail. She stayed in the relationship.I could tell exactly when she was starting to see the REAL person that she too quickly became involved with..Which brings me to #2)QUICK INVOLVEMENT! That Worldwind Wanna Be Romance. The potential abuser comes on strong "You are the only one for me" or "you are the only person that I can trust or talk to"..Many abusers propose in less than six months.Potential abusers will often put pressure on their victims for commitment...to the point that the victim may feel guilty if they want to slow down the relationship. This is yet another important clue..PAY ATTENTION! If these two very important clues are not enough Believe me THERE ARE MORE!
MY SECOND SWEET DREAMS ENTRY

Sweet Dreams Too
First,I would like to say the feelings of hopelessness and just sheer low self esteem can cause a woman to feel so worthless, that she feels somehow it is her fault that her partner is abusive to her. These feelings are Totally Untrue. Please,Please do not listen to these negative feelings. If you have a trusted family member or friend..Please confide in them and let them be a strong source of support. You CAN NOT CHANGE HIM! You are waisting valuable time,if you try.I know that I felt for years, like it was my fault..I thought 'It must be my fault,if I keep attracting these kinds of guys".If you do not have a friend or family member, talk to your family doctor. If this is not an option call 1-800-559-safe.I know that a lot of women stay in the relationship because of finances and their children or both.Especially today,in these hard economic times. It can be difficult. But,your life is priceless..just remember that.If you have young children, they desperately need you.For those of you that would like to know what to look for, as far as WARNING SIGNS..TO VIOLENT ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR..# 1)EXTREME JEALOUSY! This blog is dedicated to women survivors of domestic violence.I was a victim of domestic violence for years. It is behind me now but,it recently touched my 21 year old daughter's life. All of the signs were there and I saw them and I desperately tried to warn her about them. But,of course she would not listen to me.Her ex-boyfriend recently set our house on fire as we were sleeping. The Lord awoke my daughter in time for her to alert us all(my husband & my two teenaged sons)we were able to escape without harm and our house was not very badly damaged.I have since installed a home security system. We all are still terrified because he was never arrested for the aggravated arson. The police did not have prove that he did it.Even though he posted a photo of himself, posing with a lighter burning,on a social network. My daughter has a 2yr. protection order against him.He violated it with telephone calls,he was arrested for this and he does have to go to court for it.In my blog I will list telltale signs of a potentially abusive person.I hope that I can help someone out there avoid becoming a victim of domestic violence.
MANHUNT IN PEORIA (published ALLVOICES) by me win59
On Tuesday Morning November 16th,my husband and I awoke to the startling news of two inmates escaping from the Peoria County Jail sometime between Monday 8:00pm and Tuesday 6:30am. James Fuller 44 and Aaron Cook 28 had managed to escape from the roof. The two had tied sheets together to lower themselves from the rooftop of the jail.(it was like something out of a movie) Fuller had been digging his escape thru the roof for well over a year.Aaron Cook had been in jail since March for breaking the arm of a 3 year old girl.James Fuller an unemployed felon, already convicted of armed robbery and rape was accused of attacking the same woman twice(I & my husband remember reading about the attack in our local newspaper)He is described as a very scary character.Police warned the public that Fuller is to be CONSIDERED DANGEROUS.But,what really made this very scary for me personally, was the fact that he was tracked down to the very neighborhood in which I live.Aaron Cook was captured several hours after the two escaped. He was found hiding in the basement of a residence and two people were arrested for obstructing justice. But,Fuller was still at large.Just blocks away,Fuller broke into a resident's home, tied him up and robbed him, taking a vehicle and a cell phone.Around 7:00 pm he reportedly left the stolen vehicle in a High School parking lot(he was in my area now). The police tracked the cell phone to an area that is like 2 blocks from my house! I was a paranoid mess and I can imagine the fear his victims must have felt upon the news of his escape. He was out there somewhere the entire night.Police finally captured him in a vacant house, where he reportedly surrendered without a struggle(he had left my area). It is reported that Serial Rapist James Fuller 6'3 and 225 lbs. was a patient at Zellers Mental Health Center(now closed down) 20 years ago, when he overpowered a worker and escaped(he was 24 yrs. old) he was at large for 5 days.He was a sixteen year old basketball star when he was first charged with rape,it is reported. But,thanks to the Peoria Police Department and local authority's James Fuller Serial Rapist and Man Of Terror is back behind bars!
